Yeah, he didn't go into detail on that, but I didn't see any special pullers in his pictures either. You'll figure it out.

Laugh 2014 Death Valley Daze ...

Hey all,

Couple of us BAARCers managed to cross paths a couple
Of times at this season's Death Valley Daze rally ...

Here's a pic of longtallsally at the intersection of
Saline Valley Road and Lippencott Road on
Thursday morning, 1/30/14 ...

We snapped some pics and he was off chasing Bicycle Phil and DaveRMS
up Lippencott on his 450 KTM ...

I headed back to Saline Valley Warm Springs ...
Camped there Thursday and Friday and headed over
Steele Pass on Saturday to Furnace Creek ...

Making our way up the wash on the way to
Steele Pass ...

Found the Marble Bath ...

Eureka Dunes ...

Hung out around the campfire with LTS on Saturday night ...

Rolled through the Carrizo Plane on the way home ... found the
ridge above Selby Group Campground based on longtallsally's
recommendation ... I usually camp at Carrizo on the Hurricane Ridge
side, but WoodsChick and LTS convinced me to give the far side
of the plane a shot ...

Glad I did!

It was fun to hang out with a fellow BAARCer and about 100 of my
closest ADV buddies at Furnace Creek ...

Cary and I are planning to be at Mercey Hot Springs on
February 15th and 16th ...

hope to see a few of you BAARCers
around the campfire,
-- SFMCjohn

Hey John,

Cool pics! Dude, I feel a little red in the face not remembering meeting you at Alice's- must have been in my sprotbile days, which is to say when I was a tool.

Anyway, I'm really glad the Carrizo location worked out for you. Here are some shots from a recon trip and then the family trip a while later:

It was great hanging out around the campfire and chatting for a while.

Hey all - I have been looking for a Bay Area riding group and found this thread. I live in San Francisco and am tired of riding solo. My schedule is relatively flexible - I'm into day, overnight, or multiday rides.

I'm not super fast but do really well at holding down the end of the pack or just going with the flow. I want to challenge myself without getting hurt (not too hurt anyways...).

I'm trying to get signed up for the Mendo Rally in the first week of May to meet some folks and would like to get some rides in before then.

shoot me an email/PM if anyone is interested.

Cheers,
Matt

Brand spanking new R1200GS Adv...now what?

Just got a 2014 BMW R1200GS Adventure, looking for places to ride (on/off road), and people to ride with. I have some experience riding off-road, but not with a 700lbs beast, looking for day ride to start with...any suggestions?

This pace of this group might be a bit, how do we say this nicely... remedial for some folks, but GroupRides.net do put on rides very often, and their policy is 100% speed limit 100% of the time.

GS's are big beasts for the dirt, and there are not a whole lot of dirt trails in the area, but to get some dirt legs on you, Hollister has some trails you can hit that are easy on the big beast. Running up norther towards Knoxville there are some nice roads and dirt paths through the park that are sane and can be done in a nice day trip.

Also think about what things need to be protected before being dropped on the dirt!

It does sound like a trip should be planned, lots of rides already documented, just gotta pick one, or goto a park and play around.

+1. Carnegie might be a good place to noodle around on a big bike. I recommend going mid week if possible. There will be a lot less people there then on the weekend. PM me if you want to ride there.
