Brand spanking new R1200GS Adv...now what?

Just got a 2014 BMW R1200GS Adventure, looking for places to ride (on/off road), and people to ride with. I have some experience riding off-road, but not with a 700lbs beast, looking for day ride to start with...any suggestions?

This is my new baby (1 of 6): http://tompino.com/after-first-ride-...0gs-adventure/

Matt, I live in SF and I'd definitely be up for planning some rides - I sent you an email.

This pace of this group might be a bit, how do we say this nicely... remedial for some folks, but GroupRides.net do put on rides very often, and their policy is 100% speed limit 100% of the time.

GS's are big beasts for the dirt, and there are not a whole lot of dirt trails in the area, but to get some dirt legs on you, Hollister has some trails you can hit that are easy on the big beast. Running up norther towards Knoxville there are some nice roads and dirt paths through the park that are sane and can be done in a nice day trip.

Also think about what things need to be protected before being dropped on the dirt!

It does sound like a trip should be planned, lots of rides already documented, just gotta pick one, or goto a park and play around.

+1. Carnegie might be a good place to noodle around on a big bike. I recommend going mid week if possible. There will be a lot less people there then on the weekend. PM me if you want to ride there.

Agreed Carnegie has a lot of good stuff for big bikes... You might post here instead (as well?) of pm'ing and we can see about getting a few people out there. Weekends can be full of kiddies, weekdays can be hard for everyone but can be the best riding (especially after recent rain). I can do mornings mid week and It's always good to have someone to help kludge a repair or pick your bike up!

Hey leesagi, NOmamesSF, Madmax237, maxinux and all,

We're planning to have a campout in Hollister on
Feb 22-23rd ... usually stay at Madrone, up from
the store ...

Here's a useless map ... there's some dirt over Mt. Madonna
if you head from Alice's to Watsonville ... and from there to Hollister Hills ...

We have several GS/GSA riders in the SFMC, one of whom just
rode his two-up to Patagonia ... (Meetings Thursday nights at 18th & Folsom).
http://whyweroam.wordpress.com/

We're also planning on hitting Mercey Hot Springs this weekend ...

Be a bunch of us at Hollister, and probably just Cary and me at Mercey ...

BAARCers always welcome ...

see you around the campfire,
-- SFMCjohn

Hey LTS,

Wow, super cool pics! Love this one ... Thanks for the CP tips, that ridge above
Selby campground was ideal ...

Thanks for the pics, and hope to
see you again around the campfire, soon ...

Hi John, I plan on coming up there Saturday.
Probably won't stay but at least come up and say hi and ride some trails.

Wanted to go last year but was in the middle of a project and couldn't
