I was riding up PCH from spending the week with my nephews down in Ventura and ran into Paul and Jill on my way up. We passed each other, each going around 70mph, and waved. I stopped about 10 seconds later, realizing it was probably Paul. What a coincidence!

I took the 33 through Ojai and then 166 West, that's the first time I'd done that route. It was pretty nice, seemed to go just about as fast as just going straight on the 101.

Hey 1brunoj,

Super crowded holiday weekend in the campground ... we wound up
camping in the Madrone cul-de-sac ...

Our tent slum ...

We did find a few BAARCers:

woodsxr and Brenda ...

and I hear calioutdoors247 showed up on Saturday night in time for
a steak dinner and quality campfire time ...

A view of the tent slum ... I got the last fire-ring in Madrone on Friday
around 3pm, in a day use area in the center of the turn-around ...
no signs about no camping, so we had to move our tents out of the corral
when the lady ranger chased us out ... We re-set our tents along the road,
and the rangers said we could use the day use area for a campfire and meals,
just no camping ...

We've been used to rolling into Madrone on a Friday and having no trouble finding
three or four empty campsites together in Madrone, but not this weekend!

AJ, the birthday boy on his KTM ... 14 years old this week,
riding since he was five ...

We had a couple of adventure bikes with 80/20 tires ... No problem ...
This was a nice 90,000 mile GSA ...

Out riding ... the campground were crowded, but the trails were fine ...

and the campfire ...

So, the next dual-sport rides for me are:
The Mendo Rally, 4/30 - 5/5
The Sheetiron, 5/16-18
The Funduro, 5/30-6/1

Anyone else planning on any of these
dual-sport/adventure rides?

Be cool to say "hey" to some BAARCers!

see you out there,
-- SFMCjohn

Good times ...

Beautiful weather ...

Hey John and all SFMC riders at HH, Thanks for inviting us into your group.
We had a great time even though the place was packed.

Great pics, John. I was in MI last week for work and couldn't make it, but for anyone thinking about it, simply amazing view. From the last time I went:

I think I posted some of these in the thread on this a few years ago, but it was fun to look at them again. I need to go back again with the nice camera now...

I'm riding The Sheetiron this year (first time for me). I'll be up there with the MotoShop SF crew. We're a few first timers on the Sheetiron. I'll be riding up Friday and the others will be trailering. Any plans to ride up? If so, care to compare notes and maybe join rides? I was thinking Berryessa and Cache Creek up the east side of Mendo to Stonyford.

Hey tedski,

Sheetiron rocks, you'll love it ... I have to come check out MotoShop SF on DeHaro, very cool you are in the city now! I always ride up and camp on Friday, but am thinking (vaguely) about doing the SI on my '73 Triumph Tiger streetbike this season, so I don't think I could keep your DR in sight very long ... ha.

Hi leo_jb (and tedski),

Here's the way I'm going to try to go next Wednesday (4/30) to the Mendo Rally and Lake Pillsbury (to get to Stonyford for the SI in May I turn right at Bartlett Springs/Walker Ridge (instead of left to get to Lake Pillsbury) to drop down to left on Bear Valley to Stonyford) ...

Anyway it is not a very good map, but it shows Napa, Lake Berryessa, Knoxville BLM, Reiff/Rayhouse and Walker Ridge dirt and fire roads and Indian Valley Reservoir ... for the SI ... The blue line goes on to Twin Valley and French Ridge to Elk Road ...

leo_jb, I'm still not sure when I can get away for Mendo ... The gate at Reiff/Rayhouse is still locked, I think ...

Here's a map that shows the jeep trails through Knoxville on the south side of Knoxville Berryessa Road and Reiff/Rayhouse north to Rt 16 ...

And Walker Ridge Road ... a more fun dirt road than Bear Valley ...

So anyway, there you go ...

See you around the campfire,

-- SFMCjohn

SFMCjohn - that's more or less the route I took last year. Let me know if you want to ride up together next Wednesday. I'll probably head out late morning. btw, its supposed to be relatively easy to get around the gate these days. Not sure I believe it though.
