2012 Rally Mongolia

Well, after a 2 year break, it seems they are back! I have been hoping this race would be arranged again and it seems the prayers have been answered!

August 12-19th 2012 will see the 16th edition of the Rally Mongolia, with an average of 500km per day and a race maximum of 4000km, i'm sure you'll agree this is set to be a very challenging rally, in an incredible setting.

I have applied for pre reg pack and also contacted the European liaison, for more info, especially price and logistics.

Link for the race:

Website link is here: http://www.sser.org/rallymongolia_e/index_3_summary.htm

I am considering entering and it seems like a true adventure, Gobi desert racing, 500km per day average for a week.. should be something unforgettable! If you are interested, or know someone who might be, then it would be great if you could let me know. I have applied for the pre regs pack and will post any info i get, on here.

Hopefully someone is crazy enough to say they are interested in coming to race with me!

Cheers for now
Ben

I did it in 2006. Was my first international rally and had a great time. Brush up on your Japanese and watch out for the camels!
Good luck!

Update on the rally, just had emails and a registration / dvd pack arrive from Japan.

The European liaison team have 5 bikes kitted out and available to rent for the rally, 3x KTM 530, 1x KTM 450, 1x KTM 690
Entry fee is approximately 4500 euros with 10% and 5% early bird discounts
Organisation provide accom in Yurts
There is the possibility for support or mechanics etc to travel with the helicopter each day, for 4000 euro payment to cover the length of the rally.
Organisation carry a 20kg kit bag for you, as well as a set of wheels, arrangements for carrying spares etc can be made with local service crews, if required.

Classes are:

Production <250 / 250-450, 450+
Superproduction <250 / 250-450, 450+
Experimental [quads+sidecars]

I have a pdf file of the regs so if anyone is interested, please pm with an email address and I will send them to you.

Going to watch the DVDs now and see what its all about! Looks like it's going to be a good year for rallying and if i can work out how to do it, then the dvd will go up onto youtube

Cheers
Ben

Hey there;

I raced Rally Mongolia in 2010 with Jonah Street and inmate Mike Buhler.

Mike and I rented bikes from KTM Tours Mongolia. (enjoy the blazing sound track on his website!) The owner Gantulga provided complete support, airport pick up, hotel reservation and food arrangements in Ulaanbaatar. The bikes were bone stock KTM 640 enduros with nav towers installed. The bikes ran perfectly and were well suited to the event.

I have had the good fortune to attend the Dakar Rally (2009 - 2010) twice as part of Jonahs support crew. Dakar is a BIG DEAL.

In comparison, Rally Mongolia is a very well organized club event, low key, low pressure. The organizers are more interestd in getting you to the finish, rather than finding ways to toss you out (Dakar). The riding was fun, people very friendly.

We had an absolute blast, evidence??....count the beer bottles at the end of race party!

Jonah won, I finished my first International Cross Country Rally in 8th. I was stoked!!

Here are the rest of my Rally Mongolia Smugmug Pics.

Gee thanks Mike, you barely fit me in there after all the months we prepared together?

Yeah it was a fun event, a great one for a first timer.

Biggles this could be you and some of what you can look forward to

All sounds good to me!

Im keen to go for the new country and the adventure it will give, but with it being twice the price of entering Brasil or Australia, might have to reconsider..as Id prefer something a bit more competitive.

Will see once ive got the first couple of rallies out the way this year i guess. Always good to keep something on the burner tho!
