In as well. I'd like to do some parts of it this spring/summer on weekends.

Day 2: Wednesday August 12th, 2009.

It was cold when I woke up.
I quickly packed up camp, and hit the trail.

I rode for about an hour toward the next town of Basin Mt. where I hoped to get a hot cup of coffee and breakfast.

The trail climbed up into the mountains, and we gained a lot of elevation, and it only got colder. I had to stop and put on my winter gloves.

On the other side of the pass, we stated to decend.
There is an active mine up here, and some of the roads were in the process of being "repaired". That meant loose marble sized gravel. No big deal.
I passed some of the old mining buildings on the side of the road.

I remember that the road out of the moutains toward Basin was very nice.
It followed a stream for a while...

When I arrived in the town of Basin I was shocked by how small it was.
It seems to be dying. The Interstate takes all the traffic. I didn't see a single car on Main Street. But I did find the "local" eatery.

Breakfast was good. I love breakfast burritos.

After breakfast, I left the CDT.
I had a job interview back in Bozeman the following week, and it would not make any sense to ride south, only to have to backtrack to Bozeman.

So I got on the Interstate and headed East for 53 miles.

I have a friend in Livingston MT. who let's me stay at his house, and I often take advantage of this. Plus he's a cool guy and we always have good times.
Hi Luke!

So I moved camp snuggly onto his back portch and relaxed for a few more days.

Stats for the day:
I guess I didn't write them down...
Sorry.

Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun...

I took advantage of the "rest days" to get caught up on Internet stuff, pay bills, drank beer, ate food, and watched movies with with Mr. Poofy-pants the cat.

One of the things I had to fix were my CTD GPS files.
Some of the routes had become truncated, and I had to fix them.
It took time, but that's OK. I had lots of time.

I bought Luke a 30 pack of Olympia Beer, and cleaned up his kitchen in lieu of "rent".

[By the way, if anyone offers me "Tent Space" or a couch to crash on, I ALWAYS find a way top return the favor. I'm good at fixing things, I'll clean, and do dishes, and I'm a really good cook. ]

I had to wait a few days anyway for MotoAdventureGal.
She was down in Colorado doing "The Dirty Dozen - Ride for the Cure" and working at the AMA event in Keystone.

Here's a few pictures I took while hanging out in Livingston, MT.
It's a neat little town, that has all the basic things you need (Bars, coffee shops, cheap food) and none of the things I dislike (Strip malls, Whale-Mart, etc...)

Here's a picture of "Camp Snuggly" set up on the rear deck of Luke's place. It has a great view of the mountains to the south and gets the morning sun.

Downtown Livingston.

The railroad yards where they hook up extra locomotives to help get the trains over the mountain pass to the West.

My favorite "greasy spoon" diner.

Also, the front tire was looking a little spent, so I scored a new one at a local shop, and installed it.

Old and new.

No stats to report.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

It's an honor to have you with us Mr. BigDog.

After all, this ride was inspired by your Ride Report and I used your GPS files...

Awesome! I had no idea you two were doing so many trails!

Time to live vicariously through yet again.
