I've been using Surefire lights since the mid 90s. They cost more but unlike most of the rest, they take an unbelievable beating and continue to work. And if they ever do quit, you mail them back and they either repair it or replace it.

Between Mary and I, we have at least 10. Only one has given me a problem - a very fancy high output LED with adjustable power - and it was repaired and returned within a week after I mailed it.

I concur about the surefires, I accrued a few while in the Army and have a great head lamp (minimus saint http://www.surefire.com/illumination/headlamps.html) my only caution for these is do not, and I repeat do not buy cheap batteries, particularly ones from China. I had a complete failure occur, and by that I mean a frangible flashlight grenade, luckily I had set it down to grab a screw driver when it blew it. Besides that I haven't had any issues, I use energizer CR123 (I accrued those as well) with no problem, the chinese batts were freebies when I bought another light for the house. Will never use off brand batts again.

US made batteries are going to be harder to get. A123 corp just went under and the Chinese are trying to buy them and take production overseas.

Browning Alpha Max. takes 1 AA battery, 100 lumens, durable, throws a heck of a beam, adjustable, is small in size and AA batteries are everywhere. I have been carrying mine everyday for about 2 years, been washed a couple times, keeps on tickin.

Check out Coast http://www.coastportland.com/
This is the one I got my wife, she hasn't broken or lost it yet.

I carry some of their stuff in my shop. Stuff seems pretty good, even if it is made in China. Like everything .

Kato don't mind the wind or rain. He's pretty much a lay back dog.

Fine here in Rockville, the most damage I saw occurred to someone's poor minivan. Looks like someone couldn't drive and clipped the left rear pretty good. Besides some mild basement seepage and having to dig 2 drainage/runoff ditches it wasn't bad here. I filled the generator up in prep and it looks like I will have to drain it out here shortly.

The cause of the power outage in my neighborhood. This is MD-214, the only way in and out.

About a half mile up the road I passed power company trucks headed this way.

I've got power at the shop, so I'm good to go.
