I'll have to check out those Gaernes when you get them Kev; been thinking about getting a pair of NON-waterproof boots for the RTW trip. Reasoning being that I will inevitably be crossing streams and rivers that ARE deeper than my boots are tall and there's nothing worse than a waterproof boot getting soaking wet on the inside as it takes forever to dry it out.

Goretex socks are the shit. Well tested many times beginning with Kevin's TWVT ride a few years ago. I was wearing my new Alpine stars tech 3s and attempted to waterproof them....lamely. After the fucking ARK floated by, I thought the waterproofing had worked, but upon taking the boots off in Marlinton the water poured out of the boots.... but my feet were dry and toasty in my goretex socks.

My first pair is REI branded. I have 2 more pairs that are Cabellas Brand. Both work well. ebay.

I think that trail she was going up is dictum ridge. I hear dean and Todd are going to do that on 990s. Therefore I'm not convinced she's any good.
