The kinder and gentler SMIB may not enjoy a good clam bake, or fish taco. Or Scott's account is hacked

Tires

Hey Guys - I'm looking for the Shinko 705s for my bike R1150R - I want to ride some dirt roads on it - and am having a tough time finding them for the size 120/70 17 and 170/60 17. I've checked number of sites, are there any that you would suggest checking?

Also, if I can't get the Shinko 705, is there another 80/20 on/off road tire you would recommend.

Thanks

Can I be of assistance?

I don't think BMWs are compatible with Shinkos, are they? Don't you need Das Tires from Metzeler? Look at the Karoos 3.

If the road isn't too bad and you're not too bad, I don't see why you couldn't ride the 1150 on a dirt road that was dry and in good shape so long as you didn't go too fast then try to turn/stop too quickly. My VFR did fine on fire roads wearing Pilot Roads getting to Boole Tree. Granted I didn't go much over 20mph, but it was dry and dusty, not wet and muddy.

I'm sure the Shinkos would work fine, but honestly have have no experience with BMWs off paved roads.

Which way did he go?

More tire stories...

So I spooned on a new front shoe for the VFR tonight. It is always a series of tactical battles for me since singlehandedly mounting a low profile tire is difficult and requires a considerable amount of lubricant. (<--note to Scott: this is the softball, actually t-ball, comment for you to use in your humorous response, Jax: you're advanced so have at it ) My approach, in order to spread my frustration level, and often injury healing time, across multiple sessions, requires time between getting the first bead off, then the second, then a manditory beverage break and often a nap . Then getting the tire back on.

Getting it on: The first bead is easy but that second bead's last *pop* over the lip of the rim is always difficult as I wrestle the tubless low profile rubber covered with windex and or soapy suds into its groove. Tonight I got it on quicker than usual. Then proudly wiped off the equipment (the spoons for goodness sake!), put away the other stuff. This leaves time with the bead unset to let any extra suds/windex inside time to evaporate. I put my reading-I mean safety glasses away and proceed toward the door when I look down at the tread pattern... It hits me that I might be an idiot. did I put on the right way?

I did not check to see that matched the rotation arrow of the tire and the rim before slathering the lube on ... I've got a 50 / 50 chance of not having to re do this whole thing... I look to see what I've done... but of course I have to get my *safety* glasses back out of the drawer...

Yeah, I'm lucky, good, blessed or all three . The arrows all point the same direction. This is gonna be a great week
