attached photo of the same mirror in a slightly different configuration, but it appears to have the same elbow. concealed in the lower end of the elbow, the stem reduces to only 5mm. both of my mirrors failed at this exact spot on my recent northern trip. they may last a long time on pavement, but not long on gravel. too bad, it looks like a good solution.

i zip tied one mirror inside the handguard so i at least could move. no mirror on the gravel up there is suicide.

I dunno, blooch. Nor can I know those expensive things are NOT a POS I've come to realize that price doesn't always reflect quality. The stock mirrors for my bike from the Honda dealer are in the $20 range. They work and last just fine until the weight of the bike comes down on them. It looks to me like there's plenty of options undre $20 for aftermarket mirrors; see HERE for examples. So for a little less than those high profit margin pair, you could install these and have FOUR spares at your disposal. That should be worth several falls Jesayin.

Yep I do know about expensive POSs too. Some parts on the stock mirrors are fixable I hope she can find a 20 dollar fix. Usually the fitting at the base of the mast breaks first and that is 20 bucks. The best thing is to turn them in or take them off but I do not even do that and sometimes suffer for it. Choices are few if you want to keep it somewhat stock.

Hope you had fun at the Shen 500 George.

Thanks Loftus. It was great. I'm sore from head to toe, but hey, rode hard.

The best insurance I've found against mirror breakage is leaving them a little loose. But it's a pain when they work loose while you're riding. The worst is when the mounts that are part of the lever assembly break - that can get real costly! I think for a bike that's going offroad, the cheapest fold-in kind (that give a clear image) are the best choice. Meanwhile I need one for my XRL as when the bike fell backwards on it, being a little loose didn't count as the face of it hit the dirt and pushed to tighten it. Most of the time they impact going forward and swing in.

Hope yousums had a great time at LF! And that the mirror was the extent of the casualties

Not trying to be a big "I"

Just so you folks don't think I got my fill of the SMIBs this weekend... I wanted to give a shout out. I'm working on my LF2010 Ride Report and the shirts. Just finished resizing the pics while I'm watching the end of Long way down. Got in a good ride with Katie this morning... she was showered and her new kicks felt great. On the way home the traffic was light around 3ish back from Rockville.

I think this was why my face hurt this morning... I was doing this all weekend. Had an awesome time... as usual. Thanks to you all!
