Anyone immediately downstream of the St. Marys dam needs to pay attention. They are issuing warnings about concern for the dam breaking.

By Liz F. Kay, The Baltimore Sun
7:15 a.m. EDT, August 28, 2011

St. Mary's County has notified residents downstream from St. Mary's Lake Dam of significant flooding from heavy rains that came along with Hurricane Irene. The county had warned residents that the dam could fail.

Eddie Hopkins, a spokesman for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, said this morning that the water levels at the dam had reached 68 feet; the dam can fail when water reaches 71 feet. No residents have been forced to leave their homes, and Hopkins said officials at this time do not expect a breech.

People within the affected area were advised to move people and pets to high locations or upper floors of buildings with a means of escape, as well as turn off gas, electricity and water if water is about to enter the home.

They should also avoid walking in, driving in or touching flood water and wash hands thoroughly after touching it.

Roads that are affected include: Indian Bridge Rd in the Great Mills area, Point Lookout Road in the Great Mills area, Knott Drive, Onion Fields Lane, Western Branch Lane, Montgomery Lane, Flat Iron Road, Goddard Road, Ronnie Lane, Poppy's Way, Adkins Road, Brook Mill Court, Old Great Mills Road, Soaring Eagle Way and Wind Mill Circle.

No worries there...I took off Friday and Monday planning for CH III...

We did alright...lots of small branches down, still no power. Been out since around 2pm yesterday. Took the KLR out and around town to see what missed us....apparently quite a bit. Lots of big trees down in town as well as lots of power lines. Maybe, we might have power by tonight...maybe.

Looks like our area really lucked out as far as Colonial Beach went. Took a loop through a different part of town and much more damage. Two cranes are lifting some pretty big trees off of houses and most of the roads are blocked.

Still no power...Dominion power says tonight...rumor has it at 3 days...I'm hoping for option "A"

Planning on going into work tomorrow, guessing it's just going to be a nice morning ride since I'm expecting the power to be out there as well...

Ok, too many posts to respond to and I don't feel like quoting them, so here goes:

First of all, I'm glad everyone is safe and doesn't seem to have too much damage, especially nothing serious. My place just has a few small limbs here and there.

Lonestar - Thanks for the offer for the phonecalls. Great idea!

Dorito - The sexy never left You're just jealous that you can't rock the pink like I can even though I got the wrong equipment...

Dynamick - C'mon man, you know people get super stupid during media induced panic. It's YOUR fault they didn't plan for anything ahead of time. And why don't you carry bread and TP so they don't have to raid the other stores?

Rflagg - Holy shit that's hot! At least it's a dry heat...I'm sure you haven't heard that yet Get back safe!

joints - glad you got that tree out of the way before Irene hit. Sucks about the driveway though.

Scotty - Good job on Macguyvering the genny

As far as the racing, it was a blast! We ended up finishing 3rd in our two races, earning us 2nd place for the weekend!

I almost fell off a few times, but held on long enough to climb back to where I needed to be I have some photos and videos I'll upload later, but here's one to hold you over:

That's us trying to hold the lead during today's race. Unfortunately I screwed up a few times and we lost it shortly after, but it was still fun!
