Hi Walter. Thanks for posting the Video in the right thread. I figured out that I put it into the wrong one. Well, It seems like I am better in motorcycling than in Forum stuff.

There´s a few things I want to mention about this crossing and add a few comments to that Video:

When I wrote Walters and Tony´s story about the BAM and specially the Vitim River Part. I was always thinking like - could I ride that bridge? They said it very true in their postings. Everybody could ride on a sidewalk without problems, but add the hight, the changing wooden surface, the bump in the middle, no fencing at all, the mooving water below you, the lenght of the bridge etc. etc. that makes it kind of scary.

So I came from the Taksimo side. I had a hard day riding from Severobaikalsk to Taksimo (that road from Nova whatever was really, really bad). I was wet allover but had a good nights rest in the Hotel in Taksimo. The day started with clear skies. Temperatures were low and there was just no wind at all. I was so excited getting to that bridge and I counted down the miles, always thinking - ride it, or not. I had to cross some really huge waterpools that occured during some hard rain the days before I arrived. (since Vienna I was riding EVERYDAY in rain).

I was looking at my Garmin ... 2 km, 1 km, 500 m, 100 m, 50 m to Vitim River crossing. My heartbeat really went faster. It´s just before you get to the bridge, that you see it.

I seen the bridge and from the first second, there was no question that I will ride it. I am just much too lazy to walk over that bridge

Then I had a small chat with the bridge guard. He was telling me something I only understood half. And I thought he was telling me, that there is a vehicle coming from the other side. Well, THAT would have been scary to happen on the bridge. So I waited for 2-3 minutes. I did a quick check. No Wind at all. Bridge was looking good - so off I go. I love the start of the Video, where the bridge guard shakes his head thats so funny.

The ride across the bridge was perfectly nice. I have to mention, that I have no fear of hight at all, I am not attracted by water and I love to do corners but I am also able to ride somehow straight. As mentioned I had perfect weather conditions and I was in perfect mood. So the ride was easy. Take away just one of those ingridients (like it was on Walters crossing) it´s very likely you will just push your bike over that bridge and will be scared as hell.

As you already mentioned, you can see how much I loved it by the grin in the mirror at the end of the Vid.

I am not too much of a Forum writer, but I guess I will write a short story here on Advrider too, because this forum helped me so much to find informations about my route, so i want to give something back. Maybe someone else would search for information and finds some of mine useful for his trip.

cheers

How much did BMW pay you to put their logo on that Yamaha?

For the whole report I kept thinking this bike was the XT660Z Tenere! What's with the BMW badges blastered all over the bike I kept asking myself? Is it an advertising thing?

But stone me if it isn't an easy mistake to make in that desert khaki color. To be honest, I still believe it's a Yammie now!

As for the tank, Amphibious PT-76?

No epic journeys this year for me. Its been a year of watching other peoples spot trackers and reading other reports, and missing life on the road.

But I do have several interesting and ambitious plans for next year
