We were at entrance to Gardner Canyon from hwy 83 a little late, it was right around 10:30. We had 5 riders total. There were two trailers there so we expected to run into you later.

Here is a link to the route we took today. We had to cut the ride short due one of the riders with a possible broken foot. Hopefully not but maybe he will give us a report after he gets the x rays.

I will post some pics I took later today.

Actually there were two trucks with trailers and my 4-runner with a trailer. I must have JUST missed you which sucks. I went back and rode a couple hours and then headed out. As it happens, I broke my ankle 7 weeks ago, so I hope your buddy didn't break his foot. Did you go to the end of Gardner Canyon or did you take a right at the camping area? I went left and I think I would have run into you if you had gone that way.

My sincerest apologies. I really thought we could make it there by ten, ten fifteen at the latest, but I grossly "mis-underestimated" how long it would take to get there. We were hauling the mail all the way up 83, but didn't get there untill ten fourty. We must have missed you by ten minutes or less. We saw your trailer, and were hoping we'd bump into you on the trail somewhere, but there's a lot of real estate out there. I had your cell number, but my Sprint POS never gets signal anywhere near Sonoita. I hope you're not too pissed and got in a good ride anyways.

We headed up towards Kentucky Camp, cut back over to Gardiner and then up to the Link Trail. That's where the shyte hit the fan. Blackfxd? got a little too close to the edge of the trail, and caught the toe of his foot on a protruding rock, which made him fall. He was wearing MX boots, so it could have been worse, but we believed his foot may be broken. He couldn't put any weight on it, so we helped him gimp down to a wide spot on the trail and started turning bikes around. Clay rode him double back out to the road, then we went back and got all of the bikes out. He was able to ride home since it was his right foot, and the other guys followed him home, so his wife could haul him to the E.R. for X-Rays. Hope his foot's not too jacked. Hopefully he'll post up when he gets home from the hospital.

I ended up staying out for a while and exploring some of the other trails we didn't make it to.

I'll load some pics later.

OH, I see from your track you went to the end, backtracked and then went North instead of South. That one little area you cross a really rocky wash right after you would have turned North. That is a fairly good little test if your not comfortable off road. Had you turned West where it splits there, that is a fairly difficult little ride to the end of another canyon where there is a spring.

Blackfxd before the massive toe stubbing.

Clay.

Link Trail. I was walking back down for some action shots, but I missed all the action!

"Where did it all go wrong? Stupid rock!"

Helping a brother out.

Yes, that's a GS on that trail. Turning that thing around was fun!

Manwich.

Where are the highway pegs when you need them?

A couple of random shots from the rest of the day riding solo.

I nipped up to Aliso Springs, then meandered North and found my way out to Box Canyon Road.

Got back to town around four thirty, ready for a beer and some pizza.

First, I have to thank ClayCraig, TwentyNiner, and Jeff for getting me and my bike off the trail.

ER says I have three broken bones in my right foot.

Other than that, it was a fun ride. I'll be back on the bike as soon as I can. Might need a new pair of boots.

Make sure the ortho gives you a cast that matches your bike!

Aside from the broken foot, it looks like a fun ride. Wish I could have went. Blackfxd, I hope you heal quickly, I think I need to buy better boots.

It's a great riding area out there, with everything from technical, rocky jeep and ATV trails, long steep and loose climbs and descents, to fast and smooth dirt roads. I can't wait to go back out there. Not next weekend though, I'll be in El Paso for a fifty mile MTB race. Hope I come back in one piece!

Hey Cochise folks -

Really need y'all's help for some intel......

I've got a preliminary selection of gpx files and rides posted up on:
www.dualsportdesertdaze.com/rides.html

All ratings are open to changes - so if you think something should be changed, let me know and I'll change it (remember base the rating on a 500+ pound dual-sport machine).

I also need to separate out the Border Roads into separate files - Harshaw, Lochiel, Duquesne, Montezuma, etc (just haven't done it yet and had promised to have rides up today.....) and I definitely need feedback on ratings for those. I think all the border roads are 1 or 2 but I suspect that also depends on the last time they were graded.

We also really need some intel on stuff that's in the Empire Ranch area (between 83 & 90), Boquillas area (between 90 & 80), Black Diamond (between 80 & 191 west side) and Portal Pass area (between 191 & 80 on the east side). All of this is south of I-10.

So, any help any one can give - especially any gpx files of those areas - would be greatly appreciated!

PLUS - don't forget to register and say you're coming to the soirée (that's fancy talk for shin-dig).

Hey Cochise County Crew! You lucky bastards live in just about the best part of Arizona. I really love riding down there. Thanks for all the great photos.
