Pavement with a light dirt road section to a campsite is the plan.

middlemarch shouldnt be a problem, just wont be able to drag the knee on the turns.

my friend from work runs 191 a few times a year, and he has told me that using hwy 78/180 thru new mexico is a better ride. faster sweeping turns, still scenic, without the 10 mph turns. it goes from below clifton and joins into 191 at alpine. I still want to hit 191, but are we taking it both up and back? the other route is longer, but because you maintain highway speed, its over half an hour quicker, but still a windy road, just no hairpins and brake checks. what is the route and camp spot?

side question: does anyone know if it is legal to pack a handgun in locked luggage in NM without an AZ CCW permit? Just to "transport" it until you get back out of state?

Better is in the eye of the rider. there is nothing wrong with the NM 180 route, but it is not nearly as twisty. If you are a straight-line, non-turning, speed-limit-abiding kind of rider... 191 will still be better. The speed limit through much of 180 is 35mph for no apparent reason.

I've always felt like 191 north and 180 south was the way to do it. That way you are climbing the tighter turns....

So I figured 0900 at Valero, thru tombstone, over middlemarch, gas in safford, camp somewhere near alpine.

I agree, 191 north, 180 south!

I would love to go but I will be on the road for two weeks for work, and am sure my family would like to see me, well, probably they would. :)

ive got a couple messages from guys that made me think...

1. I go to work every day and make decisions and plans that matter. when I ride a motorcycle, its time to relax. No plans, no reservations required. if i cant keep up with you I wont try, and I expect the same in return. by the way, Im pretty sure im not fast and im riding a single cylinder bike, even if it is orange. So i dont expect the latter to be an issue.

2. Im going on the 14th... if your going tommorow, dont forget to post pics of where you camp!
