Lightfighter and I tried to get a yahoo group going to communicate a couple years ago, as some guys did email but not surf ADV. But that didn't really take off. I still think that would be a good way to coordinate stuff as some people do facebook, some live here, but almost everyone checks their email a few times a day.

The yahoo group is SADSR@groups.yahoo.com

If you guys are interested in getting this going again let me know. swartzy (at) cox.net

Just verified it still works, you can send an email to :

SADSR-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

That should get you added to the group.

Huachuca Mountain Run

Looks like Sunday will work best. This is what I have in mind...
Where: Lone Star Café, Hereford (serve breakfast and there’s a gas station next door)
When: 0800, Sunday, 25 SEP 2011
Route: Lone Star Café > Montezuma Pass > Parker Canyon Lake > Sonoita > Wheatstone > Sierra Vista
Seat Time: Approx. 3 ˝ hours
Total time: Approx. 5 hours - casual ride with stops for pics, fuel, lunch, shennanigans, etc.
Distance: Approx. 98 miles
XP Level: As a new rider myself, I would say this route is pretty easy since it’s unfortunately mostly over paved roads. The road between Montezuma Pass and Parker Canyon Lake is all dirt (about 18 miles), and the serpentine road going up Montezuma Pass has some thicker gravel at some parts and can be tricky if there is traffic, but going slow would mitigate these issues. I do not however have any experience riding between Montezuma Pass and Parker Canyon Lake, but have heard the gravel road is in pretty good shape.
Note: Please bring a GPS or a good map of the area between Montezuma Pass and Parker Canyon Lake just in case no one shows up without having been back there before. I’m all for an adventure, but that area does pose as a security concern and not a good spot to get lost, even though its heavily patrolled by BP.
Please send me an email (advswede1981 (at) gmail (dot) com) if you plan on making it so we don’t take off without you happen to run a little late.

That is a GREAT ride and can be as easy or as hard as you like depending on how fast you want to go!

I've ridden that twice in the past couple of weeks, except that I normally turn around at Parker Canyon Lake and head back through the dirt.

It's a good ride and a lot of fun.

What time do you think you might get to Coronado National Monument? Going up to Hereford and then back all on 92 is a bit out of the way for me as I'd be coming from Bisbee.

No guarantees if I'll make it anyway as this is the last weekend before vacation time but there's a chance.

Henrik,

Sunday actually works better so I can test out the carb work I'm going to do tomorrow in case there's issues. I'm probably going to pass on breakfast at the cafe just because we'll be eating lunch in Sonoita. I should be there at 0745. Any decent places in Sonoita to eat lunch?

The got a few places right next to each other. I've only tried out the steakhouse, and it's pretty decent.

I think the big place is called The Steak Out.

It's all right.

I'll try to get to the intersection of 92 and the road to Coronado in a timely fashion and meet up there.

I'll be the fat guy on the blue/orange 640 adventure.

If you guys join the yahoo group that AZ-Twin put up we can swap phone numbers if you want.

Great ride today guys! I had a blast and it was great to meet some fellow ADV'ers. Yall let me know when you want to do the Dragoon Mtn loop from Benson. I'll be waiting to do it again until I have some people to ride with.

By the way...I think that minivan guy put a video up on youtube...you be the judge...
