Gas shouldn't be an issue, but some of the stations in the boonies(Rodeo, Animas) may be closed on the 1st. I hear a 1 litre soda bottle works well for spare gas.
My boy and I need to finish the root beer, then I will have an extra gas can if anyone needs it.

you guys have tents? must be bmw riders. real men sleep on the ground with pine needles for a bed and a rock for a pillow. after riding my xr that far, it won't matter anyway.

who is packing the beer? has anyone checked to see if the store at portal will be open on new year's day? we could get food/supplies there.

btw, just put brand new d606's on the xr for this trip.

how many?

Meet at the Bisbee Breakfast Club at 8:00 A.M. on the 1st for a pre-ride breakfast. We will then take the Border Road to Douglas, top off with fuel and head east on Geronimo Trail Road(easy gravel), then loop back through Animas to Portal. Those that want to do pavement only can just take Hwy 80 to Portal and meet us there. We can then find a good campsite low on the mountain close to Portal and set up camp. It'll still be cold, but we won't be camping in the snow. Those of us with knobbies or less common sense can then go up the mountain to play in the mud and snow for a while. If Onion Saddle is passable we can return that way in the morning, or alternately take Rucker Canyon to Leslie Canyon back to Douglas.

Thoughts?
I'll get to the BBC early and get us a table since I'm in Bisbee. How many are coming for breakfast? Also how many are camping? Should we plan a meal with each contributing or just each bring their own? Is anyone bringing anything that cooks or is it campfire/meat on a stick type stuff?

I'm considering grabbing a couple MRE's. Not the best tasting , but hella good for the intended purpose. Anyone interested?

Sounds like you need Jack Daniels...not beer!

I am meeting for breakfast, and camping. For food I was gonna bring an MRE, my single burner cook stove, a very small pot for boiling water for oatmeal and coffee. You could go "Survivor Man" and trap a squirrel, skin it, and eat it Raw............or buy ravioli at the store.

I have a new D606 front in the shop but I did not put it on, wonder if I should do that? I am running Saharas now.

Hmmmmmmmm

if/when we encounter snow, i'd want the knobbiest thing i could find. took the 80/20's off today for the d606's. it looks so much better and i'm not scared of crashin now. i dropped the bike 3 times the first outing with the 80/20's.

I crashed on ice two days ago coming down the Coronado Mtn in a shady spot with nobbies on the rear. No kind of tread would have helped so I am bringing slicks and bandaids.

I will be at the shell station 0730 for the ride to the Bisbee Breakfast Club Fri morning. I plan to pack whatever supplies I need but may need gas sometime after Douglas, I plan to bring a small gas bottle too.

Should be fun, sounds like we have at least 5 or so coming, hopefully more make it.

I'm planning on being at BBC at 8. I'm planning on camping, and will bring the bare minimum (hopefully to be supplemented along the way). I'll try to rig up some sort of small spare gas can today. Really looking forward to this.
