And yes... if I decide to make the switch my pampered KLR will be out for grabs

Look into the KTM 990/950 Adventure as well. I have an '05 950 that does just what you're looking for, IMO.

Been a while since I've checked this thread, or even spent much time on this site for that matter. I'm IN for Saturday. I should have my TKCs by tomorrow, so I'll be able to rally the new Super Tenere in the dirt a bit better than with the stock road tires.

I recently bought my Tenere for more two-up, highway type riding. It works great for that, and seems to do alright in the dirt also, although I probably won't take it to all the places my DRZ loves to go.

Just got back into town today. If anyone's up for a weekday ride let me know. I'll probably be riding a couple days this week. Lunch in Patagonia sure sounds good, but I'm not sure about Saturday - might be family day. Sunday's a maybe too - looks like I'm going to make a run down to Copper Canyon and will probably leave Sunday or Monday.

Hello Cochise County! I'm new to ADV and currently building up a DR650 in Tucson. Been riding all my life, but haven't been off-road in about a million years. Last dirt bike was a '74 Husky 390! Will watch your thread for upcoming rides and hope I can tag along. I have no idea where to go in Southern AZ to ride so I'll appreciate the tribal knowledge you guys all possess. Thanks!

It's off the westbound onramp just north of Dragoon. I don't know if it has a name. I don't think the gate was locked, and there was an earlier offshoot that I didn't go down.

I did find another one that hared off into the wilderness off of the Pomerene exit frontage road, but again it was going in the wrong direction.
