I have been thinking about the ST as a replacement for the f800.... i am thinking cheaper service to keep it running.. ie valve adjustments every 24000 instead of every 12000.

I was able to take it twice around. It has the mode selector switch for Sport or Touring and it actualy was able to feel the difference in throttle response. The ride boss said it really comes into play off road. I would have been on this if the delays in getting here and the dealers we're more responsive to inquiry's. I would put it in the same class as the big GS, definetly better for two up than my Tiger.

RR, not sure on about the valve maint. The lack of chain matters a little, but not a breaker.

Nothing has happened to it. It and I just did a 5407 mile trip and now the warranty is up....Im over 40,000 miles now.
I do the simple maintenance like oil changes but the other stuff like valve adjustments every 12000 miles etc get to be pretty pricey.

I read that the ST is every 24,000 and I guess I am "assuming" from that, that the cost of ownership would be less for the Yamaha. The report that it weighs 100 lbs more than a 1200 GS puts be off though.

I also so many more yamaha dealers on my trip than I did BMW... in fact I didn't see any BMW.. makes you think when your a couple thousand miles from home riding solo about support. At one point I checked and the nearest dealer was over 300 miles away.
