Thanks Bama, I have the Kawasaki factory extended Warranty so I have to go thru the Dealership for mods of this nature. I will keep it in mind. Thanks

I finally got around to ordering the Shinko 244s for my SF. I went with the 3.0 up front and the 4.6" out back.

Also bought a 13 tooth sprocket. I hope to get a lot more dirt road "ability" with these mods.

Mainly went with the 13 tooth as I find when I do go offroad that I have to slip the clutch alot in 1st gear as it is just a tad to high.

One cool thing is that both tires and sprocket were only $100 shipped. Not bad.

Had the Shinkos on for a little while now, and they have already made a huge difference in my dirt road confidence. I find I can now ride down loose, or sandy roads at a nice clip without as much fear of the tires washing out from under me.

Jury is still out on the 13 tooth, it did help a ton on trails, but I don't like screaming out on the highway. I look forward to the BB 351 kit in the future so I can go back to stock gearing.

I also added the PM rack and a small Pelican case, I really like this setup as I am not sure I want any additional weight on the subframe.

I find myself avoiding the highway anyways, most of roads I'm on usually cruising 50-60mph. Been thinking about swapping for a better trail gearing. I'll probably try out a 13 tooth soon.

So far I am digging the 13 tooth. At first I was not so sure as it felt like the engine was screaming at 55 mph, but then I spent about 20 miles on a 4 lane running up to 80 mph outrunning a thunderstorm, so after slowing from 80mph, 55 mph felt like a high idle.

I really love the new dirt tires as well.

Now I am wanting to make my suspension more dirt worthy.

Can anyone confirm the TRUE differences between the S and SF suspension. I have read that the only difference in the front is the springs, not sure on the rear. My SF model is STIFF on the rough dirt roads.

A different twist on a SF

My wife added a set of Happy Trail side racks and panniers to her SF. Its the same kit that fits the S and the smallest pannier that Happy Trail makes. Turned out well.

Don't know about the 4.6 rear, but the 5.1 does raise the bike and changes the rake angle noticeably.

For the SF, the 4.6 is the way to go, IMO.

klx250sf update

previous setup:
"monticello" cam mod
factory parts jet kit
KLX300 exhaust
Foam aftermarket air filter
13, 14 and 15T at various times

Best I could do was just about 79mph on interstate.

I have performed the following over the past few months:

351cc BB kit Bill Blue
Dynojet jet kit
KLX300 exhaust de-restricted - lowered weld ring
ported intake and exhaust
polished exhaust ports
15T front sprocket

50/50 tires
3x17 and 4.6x17

Dirtbagz saddle bags and racks
acerbis aux tank

higher MX style bars

250cc fuel mileage: 45-48mpg
351cc 42-43mpg

I notice more vibration as you get higher in the rpm range. Quite a bit above 7000rpm which is ~74mph+.

I am VERY pleased with the power and torque. The engine is more of a stump puller.

Finally got around to buy the shinko 244 tires. I went with the 3.0 front and the 4.6 rear. No rubs at all and they slipped onto the bike without trouble. On the road you can hear a distinct dirt tire hum, like running a beefy mud tire on a truck. The handling is better than I thought. While there is that occasional squishy feel from the knobbies, it didn't decrease my street riding confidence much compared to the street tires. Don't get me wrong they aren't as confidence inspiring as the street tires but i was able to push them enough to drag my toe hanging off the peg. Personally I never pushed the street tires past that same point anyways. I had them up to 75mph and the bike felt exactly the same as the street tires did at that speed. On the gravel road the bike is finally where I wanted it all along. You can cruise without the bike sliding or washing out. In the single track, and up some grades it grabbed nicely. Are they as good as a true knobby? Probably not, but they send the bike light years ahead when doing some trail riding compared to stock 250sf tires and the street performance is better than i had expected.
Now saving for a BB351 kit. Then I think i will have the perfect bike!

shinkos and 250 kit

I"m not comfortable and the type of riding we have been doing has swayed me away from the shinkos so I decided to buy a dedicated dirt bike.

shinkos and my stock 250cc piston is up for sale in classified if interested.

If anyone is interested I have a brand new never installed still in the bag IMS tank for the 09+ klx250, it's a 3 gallon.
