good stuff, great pics. those scraggy looking trees you were wondering about near manumbar are leucaena (like a tree lucerne) and prior to that, before you got to kingham station you came up the infamous mt buggery. cheers charlie.

so i opened the gate... rode thru, closed the gate and rode up to the nearby camp...

3 blokes came out..

i turned off the bike, got off, pulled off my helmet... and asked...

"you guys elling icey-poles..?"

i got some strange looks and then one said... "you want some water mate..?"

so anyway, turns out they were a fencing mob... one guy (the boss) from queensland, then 2 backpackers..
one from the UK and one from France..

they invited my to stay the night..

we piled in to a ute and knocked out about 20kms without rolling before we got to a real cold bath.... that was great..!

we set up a spare bed outside, and got to cooking a big stew from a big old piece of rump that he had laying around somewhere.... needed a good kilo or so of festering black bits cut off first... but turned into a good feed...

i drank about 7 litres of water that night... and never went to the toilet...

next morning the lads were up real early and into it before the sun got too hot..

i was headed this way... but thought i'd wait at least till the sun came up..

so had a bit of as poke arround camp... admiring the way the caravan was attached to the chassis..

packed up me bed...

watched the sun come up...

and was gone.... once more..

Hi GA, great ride report mate. Thanks for taking the time to post!! I hope to leave home in the Great Southern of WA for Alice then to Darwin in July for a few weeks myself so appreciate the preview of what my ride may be like. Where did you get all the info about the sights etc around Alice?? Tourist Information Center??

GA, I'll send you a can of compressed air to clean the camera sensor. The least I can do for following your travels that keeps me entertained.

I work on the western side of that mountain range. There is a "Castle Hill" over here. This is it from the other side.

Castle Hill is at the right hand end of all these

If I have to go to work it might as well be in country like this

Gday Dean..

if you've never been thru there before the tourist info place (or their website) is a good place to start... i also tend to get a bit of info from other ride reports (google an area youre lookin at, refined down to advrider)

also the national parks mob in each state tends to have a bit of info on where tracks go (or dont) and where there are definate camp spots, and even what areas in national parks bush camping is permitted..

also chatting to locals at petrol stops, coffee places and pubs etc often brings out a few leads on sights not to miss (or even to miss), camps etc..

and then theres plenty of info on maps (take the hema GDT series for example.. lots of points of interest on em...) google each one.. you'll get a bit of info, and generally a few pictures and can make a call from there if you want to go out of your way to have a look...

have a great trip... dont forget the photos!

.

oh and in other news.. ( i dont think ive posted it here)

bike is still in Melbourne.... after a lot of stuffing about...and another new fuel pump (which didnt solve the problem...) looks like leaking injector(s) that are causing my 'start on oe cylinder when hot' issue..

of course they have to come from Germany... they got ordered 2-3 weeks ago... so i should know some more....soon

You should start charging BMW in Germany for doing their product testing I reckon.

I'll henceforth refer to you as GoneAgain and your wheels as NotAgain
