so from the old foundry it was out onto the glorious tracks again...

wasnt long till we hit the edge of Arkaroola Sanctuary and started hitting station tracks...

not much you can say about tracks like these...gold!

.

absolute hoot out here!!

.

we ran into the guys we'd chatted to at Arkaroola that morning... and got a hot tip on a track off to the right up a bit leading to a lookout...

thought that would do for lunch...

so off we went in search of it...

Phil was in front and spotted what we though was the track...

but it soon disappeared into long grass and creek beds....

as i rolled up behind Phil, it kind of looked like he was turning around...didnt blame him...looked like a dead end... but, while avoiding a rock i though i saw about 50 metres up ahead a bit of flattened grass...

so i didnt stop...just bashed on thru, and sure enough the track apeared again

wheres Phil??

oh, here he comes

so anyway, the track opened up again and we were soon at the end of it... not a bad view...but Phil was keen to climb up the ridge behind us...

he finally convinced me (although i did work in a compromise about which way we should go )

and yep, was worth the climb...

stopped up there for a late lunch...
(why is lunch always 'late'..? too busy havin fun i spose)

was fairly windy up there

so lunch was had, we climbed back down (just avoiding the Golden Orb spider webs we looked at on the way up )

then it was back out on the track again

.

we continued heading north...

thru more creek beds,

past more waterholes,

and up more hills

it was about here we had to make a call on the rest of the day... it was getting on for 4pm... fuel back at Arkaroola shuts at 5.....

we decided if we turned around now, and got a wriggle on, we 'could get back to Arkaroola by 5, fuel up, get some beer and make camp back in the Gammons somewhere....

so we turned around a gunned it back.... catching up to the old 4wd here and there, passing them in the dust.....

didnt stop all the way back (except for gates)

(oh an i might have pulled up about a foot from a 2 metre dropoff into a dry creek bed after missing a corner.. oh and i might have then tried to take a 'shortcut' back to the track up the rocky verge of the track ony to belly out on the bash plate... oh and a 4wd might have then stopped to give me a push back up onto the track ... might have happened...cant remember )

anyway, we got back to Arkaroola in time for fuel

and a beer

the sun was dropping again, we checked maps and decided to head down to Weetootla gorge..

back down the dirt...

and got to the (empty) campground just on dusk

.

chose the 'best' campsite, set camp and cracked a beer... what its all about really

got some tucker cookin...

made sure the fire was goin 'properly'

saw the moon rise again

.

talked some more rubbish..

ran out of beer way too early...and called it a night....

so next morning it was up (kinda) early...

and back out on the tracks
.

.

since we had fuelled up last night we wee straight back into it for the day... today was the 'one way loop' in the Gammons....

.

words might be even fewer for a while... not much you can say when you have this scenery in front of you

.

then Phil had a stack and broke every bone in his body....

um , wait thats not what happened, ....

hey thats is a picture of Phil going to any length to get just the right angle for an 'upskirt' pic of his bike

i took his lead...

anyway, enough bullshit, back to the glorious tracks...

.

.

.

.

.
hey where's Phil??

.
oh here he comes...

.

.

cum on Phil...let er rip...catch up

.

ok..maybe quick enough....

..

.

.

.

.

(there was actually a bloody lot of white bulldust on this track... it fact phil had his first 'real' run-in with bulldust here... which was kinda nice, cos i was in front and knew what i was lookin for and so i could point it out for him... and he hit it.... and now he knows how soft and deep it can be..

respect is a good thing...

anyway, the tracks continued to float our boat...

.

.

.

.
smoko time again!

.
the back out.... gold..

.

.

.

.

.
track was fairly rough most of the time... fair call it was 4wd only.....

.
so we'd pretty much knocked off the 'one way loop'...

we then ducked back out to Arkaroola for fuel, then kept up the 'bigger' loop around to Umberatana

it was a bit of a 'wonky' ride and there where a few stops to work out where the hell we where......

.
but

but we finally found our way thru to Umberatana....

.

continued on... great fast tracks..

.

.

.
(side note...shit!, my 'peak' time must have just ended at 1am.....this shits flying again!!)

.
see! heres Phil again!

.
the 'outside loop' (heading towards copley but with an overnight stop) was superb!!

finally found Umberatana homestead...

then started headin southish...

.

.
you havn't been to the country unless you have a windmill shot

.

anyway, we got to the Yankannina ruins, but the turnoff into the Gammons was 'missing'...

well it was there with a big 'private property, no entry' sign...

i looped back to circle the abandoned homestead, while Phil continued on dowmn the track a few km's... we met up again and Phil had found a 'dodgy' lookin 'national parks' gate layin on the ground...

hell, it wasnt shut...thats good enough for us!

on we went, lookin for the Idninha ruins camp ground.....

.

bit rough etc...

.

.

but after a bit, the track opened up again and we knew we were heading in the right direction...

.
not much out here...

'cept Phil

.
oh and the Idninha ruins

.

This photo deserved its own post even though my iphone didnt get the airborn moment. the puff of dust behind the bike is greg landing then bouncing.

and heres mine again just cause i'm amazed how much air i got, its also second go as i was infront at the time. the first one felt even better as i seemed to hit the gas at the right time ,also unsure of what to expect.
Cant work out how to copy just one photo from greg's post, you'll have to scroll back a bit yourself.
