Hefewiessen is a summer clasic of course. Kolsch is also a nice summertime refresher and it is easy for drinkers of american lager to relate to ie. a big hit at cookouts. But also don't overlook shandy, which is essentially a blond ale with lemonade and/or a bit of soda; great for lawn mowing.

Most importantly, brew a beer style you like, even if it's out of "season".

Octoberfest in June?
Stout in July?
Dopplebock in August?

Hell(es) Yes.

I'm a big fan of the California Common. The most famous is Anchor Steam. Not everyone thinks it's light but it's lighter than IPAs or dark beers. It will also ferment in spring temperatures

I never bottle any more. Cleaning one keg is still easier than cleaning 2 cases of bottles. You do have to monitor CO2 levels in the system.

I started brewing extract kits about a year ago and have brewed 7 batches so far. I've done a Fat Tire, a Grand Cru, a Cream Ale, a Peace Coffee Stout, a Number 8, and a Two Hearted Ale clone (yum!). I have a second Fat Tire clone in the seconary right now. I was wondering what kind of lighter summer beers you folks might suggest I try. I've dealt with Northern and Midwest brewing and like both of those outlets for extract kits.

Brewed a Nut Brown Ale today. The black rauschbier is in my glass right now and is awesome. Spring is coming fast - got to get brewing again.

Great thread. There was a time I was doing two or three all grain batches per month. I haven't brewed since I bought my first motorcycle, my wife says I can do six hours on the weekend riding, or six hours on the weekend brewing, or six hours on the weekend skiing, but I can't do all of 'em.

Divorce, maybe?

In short, don't be put off by F800GS reliability reports on the net, or any reliability reports on the net for that matter - a few posts get cross-referenced and before you know it, your electric toaster will kill us all on 31/12/99...

Psa ipa`

Drinking the PSA IPA I bottled two weeks ago. Let it go longer than planned in the secondary, but it did not seem to affect it. Very hoppy, like a singlewide ipa or ranger ipa. Decent, but recent for all grain now. Looked over plans for a homemade wort chiller. Buying parts this week. Can not decide on best cooler for a mash tun. Any advice?

No advice, but I'm interested to see how your chiller turns out.

Summer Brews

After feedback from this forum, I decided to brew a Blonde Ale and a Cologne Kolsch that I bought from Midwest Brewing. I initially ended up with the wrong liquid yeast for the Kolsch. I called Midwest, and the rep offered to send out the right Wyeast at no charge. I was going to end up with an extra Wyeast pack with no brew kit to match, so I asked the rep to also recommend a kit to match the yeast that I had by mistake. I ended up with a Pyramid ESB kit (we split the shippng).
Has anyone done a beer similiar to this? What can I expect from this type of beer? I love the idea of exploring a beer type that I'm not familiar with.

kegs

nice set up. I may go to kegs only next year, 5-8 batches brewed each year is a lot of bottles. I didnt brew a single batch this winter, too many home projects and building a bar in the basement. next year.......serious brewing

Hope your dog's OK. I'd call a vet.

We have horses and we once gave them the spent grains from a partial mash. They didn't like it, which was surprising.

Should be drinkable, however it turns out.
