Oilies run well, have plenty of power, but no soul. Sorry, the just don't "feel" right.

Mike,

I have a GSPD that I commute on though not everyday. It's my only bike at the moment but that should change over the next few months. I love it but I wouldn't necessarily stay with DS bikes for a pure commuter. Speed Triples are cheap and by all accounts lots of fun. Maybe look at something along those lines?

What else are you wanting in the commuter? As long as there is no FI you should be able to handle the maintenance on most anything.

I'm looking to add 3 bikes to my stable of 1 GSPD this coming year. I want something vintage/classic (more than the PD already is ), something sporty but with some history and panache, and a dirt bike.
Along with the truck and the Miata, I would have to rotate commuting duties among all but the dirt bike obviously.

Rubbish! My R1150GS has been on a lot of rides with me and it has plenty of "soul". That comes from using the bike and getting to know it. I've had it from new and it is now cosmetically challenged, but it will always have a space in my garage.

I really enjoy the R80GS, but if I had to give up one, I'd keep the 1150. Thankfully I don't have to choose.
