Day 02 - (proper) 27/7-09
300 km - Total milage: 997 km
Stavanger - Voss (Vinje)

Besides a bit of rain in the beginning we'd been lucky with the weather the first day from Oslo to Stavanger and the second day while hiking to Prekestolen. The west coast of Norway is infamous for the amount of rain they get and we were not to be spared.

As I sport a camera of the SLR type on this trip I didn't take many pictures while it was raining. It's just too much of task to unpack and repack it at every stop. Hindesight is 20/20 and I wish I'd put in the effort..... so here's atleast what I have.

Rain, rain, rain. Soaked to the bone within an hour and set to ride all day. Glorious.

Waiting for the first ferry of the day

P: Lars

Here is the planned route alltogether.

We'd both been to bergen Before and decided to bypass it this time. So this is the route for the day.

The ferry wasn't too far away. I'm usually not the lucky type, but we had serious luck with most of the ferries we rode on this trip. If you've tried touring the Norwegian coastline you know that's quite a few ferry rides.

P: Lars

There's not much more to tell about this day in the rain I'm afraid. We had our tent's packed and the trip was planned to be a camping trip, but we're old enough to realise that a heated cabin is much more comfy when you're soaked to the bone and have a plan to carry on riding the very next morning. Better to be dry and happy than wet to the bone and a few hundred Kroner in pocket (1 USD = NOK 5,76, 1 EUR = NOK 8,30, 1 GBP = NOK 9,29)

Dinner on the porch

P: Lars

View during dinner

What's better on a cold rainy day than cold beer....

So what will tomorrow bring ? More rain ? Snow ? Certainly no polarbears ?!

Thumb European Ride Report Index

Normally I don't add to the ERRI before it is finished, but for a Norwegian thread I'll make an exception.

[start ENCRYPTION]
Ta gjerne med detaljer om hvor dere bodde (GPS-posisjon, telefonnummer etc) så blir rapporten enda mer nyttig for andre.
Fine greier!
[end ENCRYPTION]

I always get all oogie inside when I see people hanging over cliffs like that. But yet, I keep looking!

I look forward to more!

I've used the word pulpit since it was in the text on wikipedia

I'm writing up the next bit in a few, this will cover the biggest tourist attraction in Norway; The Geiranger Fjord aswell as Trollstigen (Trolls ladder)

cant wait

i went to Norway in June 2008. rode from Stavanger to the Arctic Circle, then back down to Bergen to catch the ferry home to England. a great country, with really friendly people.

people dont believe me when i tell them i had hot sunny weather i had most of the time. even Norwegians have jokes about the rain, just like us Brits

Trollstiggen, and the Geiranger Fjord are awesome. cant wait to see more
