wdeTA deserves most of the credit

It is a fun hobby most of the time. It is worth it just to see wdeTA ride home in freezing temps every time he comes down. I try to get him out of here before the sun goes down but have not had any luck in doing so. It was nice to see Dale drive off with a stand on his bike this trip.

I have the easy part. My shop is warm and I only have to go out my garage door to the shop. If not for Dale's help we would not be as close as we are. Dale has not only provided the bike but also a lot to the design. Having an owner of a bike that we are designing is great. The experience in the use of the bike contributes much to a good design.

Dale even let my grandson get on the bike to pretend like he was riding it rather then get on the road. He is a good man.

Latest version of Transalp stand

So Mike did some cutting and welding and grinding and came up with beta version 2. It goes on relatively easy. 10 minutes maybe with just a couple socket sizes and no mods on the bike other than removing the wire thingy that keeps the hoses out of the way. Seems pretty stable. Hasn't shifted after more than several dozen uses and the 50 mile ride home. No offroad with it yet other than riding over a few curbs, but didn't notice any rattling. We want to make a few mods to the top and bottom plate to facilitate manufacture and installation and to make sure the chain can't rub on it. Takes a little effort to get it up with the bare bike, so might not be doable loaded, but overall I think it will work fine. Hopefully I'll get some time to ride it up in the hills a little before Mike is ready to start making them.

A couple pics

Dear Mike, I'm at Sri Lanka (Asian country). I love this mod and waiting for design. After seen your article thought to get down from you. what would be the cost if i get it to Sri Lanka. I dont have much money. I used my XR for adventure riding in Sri Lanka. As you said center stand will help lot when in days traveling.

Thank you.

Ta

I have noticed that the manufacturer for the European model also makes a lifting handle that attaches to the passenger peg bracket. If your bike does not have a lugguage rack there might not be a good hand hold to aid in getting the bike up on the stand. I am wondering if I should provide a similar device as an option or just link the availablity of the one already made. I would prefer not making the handle.

NX650 Center Stand?

Hi Mike, I read through the entire thread, but I couldn't tell if you have a stand for the NX650. Would either the XR650L stand, or the stand you are developing for the transalp, work on a NX650? I have an '89 US model and have often wished I had a center stand since the stock side stand is short and often is a pain to work with when fully loaded. Thanks!

The XR650L may fit. Make a tracing of the bottom where the stand attaches and email it to me. If you look at post#62 on page 5 of this thread you can see what the stand attaches to. If it looks like it will fit I will have you do a height check. With that I will make one and send it to you. Sending it to Ca is not a problem. If it works, you can send me mass quantites of money.

I've cross linked this thread to the main NX650 thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...php?p=14586391) asking the same question. Hopefully we can get a response.

I also took some photos of my NX, but I think you will want to see one in person prior to fabricating anything.

More photo links in PM to you.

It does appears that the angle of the cross brace on the right side is different. Hopefully some one here in the Denver area can let me get a bike to check it out.

It also looks like an adjustment will need to be made to make sure the stand does not hit the rear shock linkage.
