Hey Oly....looks like we'll be on the road heading south at the same time. I'll be coming down from Alaska and passing through California into Baja Mexico in early Spetember....

Mine is a little further away but will happen

I was perusing some of the threads here and wondering when is too early to post, then I stumbled on this one. Our plans are for fall of 2012, we are just on the pre-planning stage, but it will be mid october from Victoria, BC to Ushuia, and back up on the atlantic side as far north as we can. Ideally ship back from Rio, Brazil.

4 months is the most we can spare from work, we have already been saving for over a year. We will be riding 2 up on a GSA, I ride an ST1300 now, but will have an Adventure for the trip. We want to tent it maybe 25% of the time. So far we are going alone but would be happy to do the ride or parts of it with 1 or 2 riders. Both of us speak Spanish are well travelled and have done a 3 months ride in Europe summer 2008 (ride report in link in my signature)... shameless plug I know . Every summer we do a 2 week trip, this year will be the Southwest and next summer we'll test the GSA and take it to Baja.

So when should I start posting, or did I just do that?

Cheers

Damn I just miss you, I'll be in Perth on the 18th Feb, looking to ship the bike from Brissy on the 14th Aug after a dash across the top end

I see you in CA maybe? Can't wait for my 'extended lunch break'

I am ... hopefully.

I am hoping to get to Ushuaia this year.

I am flying to NY in April to buy a bike and prepare for the trip, and then slowly make my way down there over the rest of the year.

When I have firmed up my dates, will be posting on my thread.

Hopefully get to meet some ADVriders on my way south!

Please don't take this as criticism, it's not. How come your not planning on TDF? From what I can find out it's only 3 days+/- of fair to hard riding to get there. Anyway anything I say about your ride is strictly out of jealousy.

TDF in May. Thoughts?

I leave on the 17 of February to head South. About 3 months later TDF is the goal I would love to make TDF, but not sure that its feasible given how late in the season I'll be heading south. Anyone with any experience? I would have loved to head out in the fall like most people, but life wouldn't allow it.

I've done research, and last year Ushuaia's average daily high for mid May is 50, and the low is 39. Sounds doable to me. But my concern is on getting to Ushuaia- Mountain passes that freeze up early and the like. Any thoughts? I mean come on, it's 1000 Km from Antarctica!

if we get our papers cleared

two of us are planning on leaving late september, we were going last year BUT we have outstanding temporary vehicle importation permits from 2003 and are having a hell of a time clearing them ( the bikes from then have been sold ) so we have a friend in Mexico City now trying to square us up..if it works out we will be heading to Lima from Oregon.

Hey waynem...looks like I'll be on the road around the same time. I'm leaving from NYC mid August...heading to AK then down the west cost into Baja in September(ish). Hope to see you on the road....
