South and west view of Earthship passive solar home

An earthship is a type of passive solar house made of natural and recycled materials. Designed and marketed by Earthship Biotecture of Taos, New Mexico, the homes are primarily constructed to work as autonomous buildings and are generally made of earth-filled tires, using thermal mass construction to naturally regulate indoor temperature. They also usually have their own special natural ventilation system. Earthships are generally off-the-grid homes, minimizing their reliance on public utilities and fossil fuels. Earthships are built to utilize the available local resources, especially energy from the sun. For example, windows on sun-facing walls admit lighting and heating, and the buildings are often horseshoe-shaped to maximize natural light and solar-gain during winter months. The thick, dense inner walls provide thermal mass that naturally regulates the interior temperature during both cold and hot outside temperatures.

Internal, non-load-bearing walls are often made of a honeycomb of recycled cans joined by concrete and are referred to as tin can walls. These walls are usually thickly plastered with stucco.

Hi ! Great RR and pics. Met you at Westfest, Buena Vista a few yrs. back. I'm the lucky one who broke his thumb on the trail. I did baja in Feb. Thinking about Mexico mainland and beyond next. I have to get a new camera. These hundred dollar throw aways don't cut it.

Two yrs. ago they wanted to do bypass surgery on me. My chiropractor gave me some cayenne pepper capsules. Still get out of breath easily sometimes. I was too blocked up to do stents. I'm taking the roll of the dice, but I think it's always that way.

That was a fun ride we were on Farrell. it was a shame you got injured.

Found a nice dual sport road on the way back to hwy 70.

OH MY GAWD ROAD

This is a dirt road that will take you to Central City.

STARTING POINT: Miner St. & Colorado Blvd.

Limestone Statue of Steve Canyon

TOTAL MILES: aprox. 22.7 miles round trip

Fun road, not challenging though, & hard to get any good pics.

Here is where thing started getting interesting & much more rugged & challenging.

West on hwy 70 & south on Hwy 6 through:

At Keystone turned east, Peru creek to Webster Pass

These guys looked really strange at me & said "Wow we don't see too many bike like that up here. " I did have all my luggage/gear on board which did make it a little tougher/challenging.

I had to put my Knee brace on for this ride as I just had knee surgery 3 months ago.
