I had also seen this on the way in.

I had wanted to see it but I was not exactly sure where it was as it was only listed as being on Avenue F.
But now that I look back at the postings for this it is on Bay Avenue and Avenue F.
Hmmmmmmm, right where they said it was !!!

The rider who got this Tag is in construction and he got to talk to the owner, who also rides, and he was able to get some pictures inside (post 6201).

There have been several "Crab Shacks" Tagged in this area.
This is the only one I stopped at.

"Mud City" is what the locals call this area.

I liked the hammerhead shark.

I am guessing the tail section is sticking out on the inside wall !

Oh, that's a clam.

And all this time I thought it was an egg ! ! !

Ferry Rd

Ferry rd looked like an interesting place so I took a look on google maps. I managed to find an airplane that got caught by the satellite.

I guess the plane was moving too fast for the camera, you can see each component of the image, the red, green, blue and intensity maps.

I thought there had been three Tags here, but I could only find two on the list.

There is plenty at this park with some nice history information around to appreciate what they have preserved.

This is a baggage depot for the train that use to run through here.

This is the old train station.

The baggage depot says Stafford on it.
That is the Township that the train station for the town of Manahawkin is located in.

You may also note that the name was spelled Manahawken with an "e" instead of an "i" like it is today.

Perhaps a typo !

And lots of interesting train parafernalia around.

I don't think I have ever actually seen a real train crossing like this before.

The train says Tuckerton RR.
Tuckerton is a town south of here.
I have posted stuff from there.
I always seem to get it confused with Tuckahoe, which is a lot further south and west.
I also get Manahawkin and Manasquan mixed up too !

Makes your head spin sometimes ! ! !

Off on the other side is the other tag.

I'll do a separate post because of all the pictures I have from here.

Some information on Stafford Township on Wikipedia.

Stafford Township's history tab.

Stafford Township Historical Society.

If you want to go to Long Beach Island you have to go through this town.
Routes 9 N/S and 72 E/W meet here as well as the Garden State Parkway.

I found some information on the Tuckerton Railroad too.

So I finally found out where people say the name Manahawkin comes from.
It is said to be the Lenape Indian word for "Land of Good Corn".

All of this is located in the Manahawkin Lake Park.
We are in the Heritage Park section under the letter "H".

The other stuff !

The Old Stone Store is the center piece of this side of the park and the location of the Stafford Township Museum.

There has been a store on this spot since 1750.
Not necessarily continuously !

The stones were added later.

There are also a couple of sheds with artifacts in them.

Includes information about local Pro Baseball Player Roger "Doc" Cramer.

Some great information about a great player.

Duck boats are a big thing down here at the shore.

Roger "Doc" Cramer stats.

The links in the post above will take you to the museum information.

So after riding around Long Beach Island and Manahawkin it was time to head home and place a new Tag.

I looked high and low for any information about this statue but I guess all I needed was right on the back.

The name I believe is Aaron Early.

It was originally a fountain.

Below the flowers in the front.

And don't forget the Mayors of Pemberton.

Someone did a little write-up / story / poem about this lion.

Wow, I just found some information on Aaron Early,
and this Lion Statue in Pemberton.

It looks like the ferry landed a little north of the power plant on the PA side. From the old pictures on this site the ferry slip was almost under the Commodor Barry Bridge. It looks like it is still there minus the toll booth.

About a week after our excursion to Long Beach Island we got an opportunity on the other side of the state.

The King's Road is now Kings Highway.

But I never really knew it's history before.
Laid out on part of a Lenni Lenape Indian trail in 1681 !
And from Perth Amboy to Salem ! ! !

Riding between those two cities today is 102 miles.
And that is using the New Jersey Turnpike.
Which amazingly almost parallels Kings Highway today ! ! !

Kings Highway today looses that name when you get above Moorestown, which is just about half way between the two.

I guess those Native Americans knew what they were doing huh ?
If you know anything about them you know they did !

(It's OK, I descend from Iriquois Nation, Senaca Tribe through my dad's grandmother.)

King's Road marker HMdb.

Here is some information on the southern section of Kings Highway.

By the way, on our way to this spot is where we picked up those pumpkins my wife made pie out of !

Next stop.

Yup, another tree carving.

With some of the finest workers around.

Construction workers.

SAR stands for, well, I don't know.
I know it does not stand for Search and Rescue !

I have it standing for Sittin' A-Round because this sat for just over 10 days !

Was the longest Tag sit until recently !

They install car and truck lifts.

Two weeks later I went to P.F. Chang's China Bistro.

And got a picture of Ja Ja Binks !

Bistro = In its original Parisian incarnation, a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting.

Parisian = A person born and raised in Paris.

China = The People's Republic of China is a single-party state governed by the Communist Party of China.

Chang =
1. A brand of beer in Thailand
2. A traditional alcoholic rice drink of Tibet
3. A 1927 film
4. A roller coaster at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
5. A Persian harp
6. A Klingon general from the film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

So I went to a place a little closer that I had just found on the internet.

Someone's shed !

Believe it or not, this use to be a toll booth.

Even more unbelievable, according to the West Jersey History Project (#28), this was someone's house ! ! !

Must have been one of those Nestle Toll House bakers !

I have driven by here a number of times but if you should happen to look in the little parking lot of the business here you would think it was their shed.

And before this I never knew there was a toll road between Medford and Mount Holly !
Today this is 541.
Going North takes you right past the Babylonia Fertility God !

So early, I mean early, one Saturday morning I head out for Lakewood.

Not much to see here folks !

And I wasn't going to linger around ! ! !

But it was a nice ride for the beginning of December.

So this early Saturday morning I was actually on my way to the last Men's Breakfast at our old church building.
I did take the long way of course because we go to church in Vineland.
But I had a really nice ride on the back roads.
I stopped at this model railroad club to try and get in the mood for Christmas.

Really neat looking old building.

And they have their own caboose !

I do not think this was the train station because the rail line is a little further up the street.

I know the building is older because a friend of mine from church said his grandparents lived in the back of this building for a while.

We had visited the Model Railroad with our friends the year before.

I just loved the sense of humor that can be found all over the layout.

And the detail.
