Kansas - Another Perspective

Here's a gathering of photos .... man-made objects found in my travels throughout Kansas on my KLR650 and KLX250. Instead of killing bandwidth with scores of image loads, this Flash Player does a much better job ...

I also put this rascal up in the "Upcoming Events" section ... the Kansas "Flint Hills Stampede" is coming in June, 2010. You might want to see for yourself ...

Great presentation. It just amazes me the large amount of abandon homes and buildings through out the west. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the show. When I lived in Kansas I spent a lot of time documenting the old barns. Great stuff

Thanks for the feedback!

I ran my stills through iMovie, added a "Ken Burns" motion effect, then exported the QuickTime file to Flash and containerized it into a custom player.

Have also done a longer version which includes many, many more landscape shots. The acoustic soundtrack on this one was performed by a lifelong friend.

That was a really nice weekend I spent with you guys.

Thanks for the video----really neat---helps us all get thru the winter and cold.

I keep compiling all the neat out of the way places and historic places in Kansas in my gps----another ride out there is due for me--I love the big open prairies.

Nice job! Kansas isn't often on a lot of "dream trip" lists since it just has this sort of flat/boring/meh stigma attached to it for whatever reason, but if you take time to get off the Interstate and explore, there are a lot of interesting things in the midwest, and a lot of history most of the population will never even see.

Curious - where was that last picture in the top video taken, of the white tall building on the creek?

That shot is of an old mill on the Cottonwood River, in the near-ghost town of Cedar Point in the Flint Hills. Location: just off of US Hwy-50, between Newton and Emporia. The paddle is kept inside the building, but the mill is in a near state of collapse, as you can tell from the photo.

Thanks for taking the time to put the videos together. What great shots! I love the one of the sunflower field and the one with bikes going down the long road by the wind mills.

Appreciate the feedback drklr! The photo you mentioned of the bikes riding past the wind farm was one I took for a story that appeared in RoadRUNNER magazine, June 2008 issue. One of many great rides with the Backroads Touring - Kansas group.
