How do I this bearing off ? R80GS

Is there an easy way to remove this bearing from its housing ? Its the top bearing from the steering head. It looks as though it will be as bigger mongrel to get off as it will be getting the races out. I did the races a long time ago When I put the other front end on. I think I may have resorted to welding the races to shrink them, if I remember correctly.

That is correct. See those two holes on the opposite side from the bearing? Put a punch through those and start hammering. Heat doesn't hurt either.

Thanks for that. I got an old nail punch, ground it so it would fit and out she came. Didnt need any heat. Munted the tin cover a bit. Had a look on the OEM parts site. Looks like its the piece they call the ring. I will call BMW tomorrow and see. the bearings I should be able to get from a bearing shop.

I love how descriptive BMW is with their part names. "Ring." As for the bearing, the KLR uses the same size bearing for either the upper or lower steering head bearing, can't remember which, but they're easier to find and cheaper.
