Off-road??

Hey Everyone,

I'm Greg. I ran into Bloochdog and Gastone at the BWM open house. I have an R1200GS and I've heard rumors you can take these things off-road!

I'm pretty inexperienced and I want to build some off-road skills. I know the bike is capable but the rider isn't [yet]. I've done a few dirt/gravel roads over the winter and I'm looking to challenge myself to learn some new skills without over-reaching.

I live in centreville and usually ride west towards The Plains, Luray, Front Royal, Middleburg, etc. Any beginner trails or dirt roads that I can get some skillz on?

Thanks for any tips!

Rubber down!
Greg

Blooch definitely cut it on before we all passed out. Love that ish! I had a Clif bar and a banana at the gas station before we started the day. May have held up the group for a bit .

(And quite the virtual pleasure, Lance!)

Howdy, Greg! I had an '06 12GS myself. I still miss that pig.

Tips? Hmm. I'm anything but an expert, but keeping your momentum up is pretty important. Get bogged down and getting started again is tough sledding. Standing up and stabilizing the bike with your knees is also key, rather than trying to death grip the handlebars. The bike will move around and that's ok. It's a weird thing to get used to, but know that the bike is incredibly capable.

I'm just getting back to the dirt after a few years off, but other than getting out there and just going for it, it's been a big help watching Motoriley's YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/Motorile...ow=grid&view=0. Shows the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Nice meeting you at the Morton's shindig and hope to see you at the spring fling. You are more than welcome at the BWDR compound too. "Never pet a burning dog." There is my tip.

Banshee and I rode to Attica NY last Tuesday for an event packed week. Her Mom's birthday ,JV baseball , dance recitals and a quite profitable derby party.

Here are a few unorganized photos and vids.
