The gang leaving Inveraray .... Lochgilhead bound...

Later in Lochgilphead....

Petrol stop just north of Lochgilphead...

Heading off ..out onto the A816 coast road north to Oban .....the irony was that I was warning Lyndsay, John and Stubby who weren't familiar with this road to be careful, as although it is a great road, it has some bends that catch folk out and was one of the roads that folk were prone to have accidents on.....20 mins later they would be helping scrape me off the road, ha ha! .....The lengths I go to 'demonstrate a point' !

Hello Kam, first time poster but have been following your thread for a while. Glad you`re ok, bikes are easily fixed or replaced. We were up on our yearly visit at the weekend. It`s the first time we haven`t been soaked. Sure I passed Johns Blade on the Dalmally to Inveraray road, it`s the same as mine. You lot keep that helicopter busy it was picking someone else up on the Inveraray to Cairndow road when we were in Inveraray.

Thanks mate ...this is true ... I heard today that my bike has been sent down to Surrey by the insurance company for 'fixing or scrapping' ..seems a long way to take it for this! ..but hey ho, - as long as they get it back to me all fixed up I won't complain.

and yes, it was a great day out - right up to mid afternoon when events took and unexpected turn...on a tight turn.

Hi Phil, great to hear from you....thanks for making the effort to sign up and post this ..It's always interesting to hear from people who may have been following the thread but haven't 'jumped in' and posted yet.

You certainly struck lucky with the weather this weekend ...

Did you pass John going in the opposite direction? (ie. you were heading north to Dalmally?) ..in which case you must have passed all of us at one point. Yes, when we arrived in Inveraray the road to Cairndow was shut due to a serious bike accident. ..... nothing to do with us this time though! ..... Later the helicopter crew told me it had been a head on collision between two bikes - OUCH! .....although they said luckily it wasn't a 'fatal'.

So with me closing the A816 a while later too, we were gradually shutting down the Argyle road network! ......... apologies to anyone held up. ...(the A816 was shut for about an hour).

Few more from a 'freely flowing' A816 earlier.:-

Hello Kam, couldn`t believe the weather we did over 1000 miles in three days and I wrecked a rear tyre.
Yes we were heading home via. Tyndrum (2 blades and an R1) to sample the fish and chips, you should ask for commission. Glad the crash wasn`t fatal a rider form Dunoon said someone had overshot a bad corner on the road.
Really enjoy the A816, then again I really enjoy most of the roads up there

Ouch!

I hadn't checked in to my favorite thread for a bit, and just read of your mishap. Best wishes for you, and the bike. These bad things always seem to happen on the best days for some reason.

Keep the thread going, you Gixer nuts have me looking for one also.

Get well soon Kam
Bikes can be fixed or replaced, I had the same idea about bones etc, but as the years come they do tend to heal less quick

May be it's time to get a more sensible bike, at my age that's what I am going to do to calm down.....just ordered a KTM 1290 SD R

Hi Phil ...sounds like you had a top weekend enjoying the roads. Seems you were doing the reverse route we did ....we came up from Callander to Tyndrum then on to Inveraray and down to Lochgilphead...

I very sorry to have to report sad news ...... The accident on the Inveraray road - (which the helicopter had attended before picking me up).....one of the bikers died in hospital yesterday .....

R.I.P brother....... and condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks mate .... as for these things happening on the best days, I am quite glad it did - if your going to spend a while lying in a road - much better to do it in warm sunshine instead of cold rain.

I'll certainly keep the thread going ...although it will get quieter now as we come to the winter season. Good to hear you are joining the 'cult of gixxer'... you won't regret it.
