Been doing a lot of DS riding lately, so the 525 has been getting all of the love. My 300 is plated, but that's really just for riding short pavement shots and fire roads to connect trails. I finally had the chance to take the 300 out for a spin today in the mountains. Within the first 5 minutes on the bike, I remember why I like riding 2 strokes so much, and specifically the 300. It's such a blast to ride.

Pics of my 300

Here are a few pics of my 2000 300EXC.

As bought a few weeks ago:

As it stands now:

I finally got up in the hills with it and absolutely love it!

Like a 50hp BMX bike.

Do any of you guys have any experience with the Dick's Racing carb mods?

Dirt Rider gave it a great review this month. It appears to greatly increase the top end without losing any bottom and has an adjustable main jet or some crap.

I'd be curious to see a before and after dyno run with the carb mods. I'm not familiar with their intelijet but the keyhole bore is a common mod discussed on KTMTalk, it's supposed to work very well. 36mm carb bore off idle and 38/39mm bore at larger RPMs, sounds like that extra jet provides additional air/fuel at higher RPMs.

Since I can't outride the motor on the 300 I'd probably go the smart carb route, twist of a knob to adjust the jetting

Tick-tock.........

I put some fresh paint on my aux number plate tank and mounted the aux halogen light on my 300 (slightly better than the KTM glow-stick)

RFs pic looks like where i'll be in two weeks

On the subject of better lights, i ordered a cheap HID 35w to try in my 08 oem housing. Will it stay lit for a while if i run a dedicated circuit back to my battery? I'm running a TurnTech battery.

I know that it will only work on DC but i think the kokusan 2k3 is what I have? which should have at least 35 watts on the DC side. Not sure if floating the ground is possible or needed. Can't search ktmtalk since its down...

Also, will it melt the plastic housing?

I wouldn't run the HID on the stock/non-mod stator system. Battery will go dead and the HID will not work with voltage below 10-11 volts DC. Then you will have no lights (unless you leave the lil 194 park lamp bulb in running off AC)

And once you discharge the Lithium Ion batteries (because the HID light sucks more juice than the stator can produce) your nice Turn Tech battery will be compromised.

I got one of those 65W PMX H7 halogen kits that includes the bulb and holder to fit an 08 OE headlight. according to PMX: No stator mods required for all 4 strokes and 2 strokes with 2-k3 or Kokusan stators.

It's def much brighter, actually usable. I rarely turn it on except if I get caught out at night so I'm not too worried about the battery. When I have used it the elec start doesn't seem to mind The lifespan of the stock bulb has only been about 2 or 3 months for me.

Here's an LED option also.

If you have a XCW then the head lamp is powered off the AC circuit. The lighting circuit is AC and is around 85 watts and the battery is run on a 25-35 watt DC circuit. So your battery won't get drained. But if you add a HID light to the DC/battery circuit the stator will not be able to keep up with the current draw.
