It goes back further than that.

In the 50's they were referred to as thumpers (and sometimes poppers). We all knew what they were.

Oops. I must be dating myself.

Why a Thumper?

Lightweight but with plenty of torque.

Easy to maintain.

Inexpensive in comparison to twins.

Thin profile.

Pleasing sound.

Thumper.... The working class dual sport.

I've been riding them for almost 40 years and don't think I've had a bad one yet.

You have to go the basement if 2 stroke talk is your jazz and hang out with that weirdo that's always mumbling about his red stapler.

One word "TRACTION" they hook up better than a two stroke due to less firing impulses per wheel revolutions.

I would ride my KX250 a bunch of places if it had a lighting coil, lights and a plate. I'm not sure if they make a lighting coil for it anymore.

Yes, that movie might have had a little more to offer than Dumb and Dumber.

It is all I know. Riding my own bikes continuously since 1977 and thumping continuously since 1982. Yet I have still never even ridden a street bike much less something with more than one cylinder. I guess I am just a one dimensional kind of guy.

yes. as do all the road only thumper bikes on the market.
thumper is not limited to dirt but is limited to 4-stroke.
adv mods just lumped all 1 cyl bikes together in 1 forum.
actual this site is extremely poor at providing sub-forums unlike thumpertalk.
of course thumpertalk is not going to keep out 2 strokes as TT is a biz. they want to sell more products & provide a forum. they are moving into snowmobiles...to sell more products.
