road open?

does anyone know of the back road from lake tutira to napier taupo rd called service rd is an actual public rd and always open? riding thru from rotorua thursday thru waikeremoana and want to try all back roads to end up in havleock north.

Not sure on that one. Have been through a long cut there once but can't remember if it was that or Waipunga-Kaiwaka Rds. Personally I'd turn off at the Tutira shop & take Matahorua Rd - Pohokura Rd - Waitara Rd to come out on to SH5 just to the east of the Mohaka bridge, that's a really cool ride.

Tried to find the start of it once but the GPS got us lost and ended up stuck in the bush on 990 (not the first time that happened )

Have done that once many years ago. Was a great road and have been thinking of doing it at Xmas as a long cut Taupo to Napier. Take The Young 1's that way
