Cant remember it exactly but I'm pretty sure I had some rib and helmet damage from that ride too

Cool pics again Bart. Good to see the variety of machines.

Shit , when the front goes on a downhill you hit the ground hard with no warning, and if you are standing up its a hell of a long way to fall. Ouch.

Wink Great pics as always Bart

Seems damned unfair that Bart was racing ahead in order to take pics when things turned to custard

A great ride in good company - thanks to those who gave me the necessary push when I list momentum in the gnarly stuff

Great camaraderie as always!

I think Wade has some spare screws. They're apparently designed to break so you don't do too much damage to the helmet. I should get a set of spares anyway.

given your damage I will overlook the 'pansy' remark (well at least for a while)

Have you heard back about the exams you sat?
It's not too painful...until I forget about it and do something stupid like catch a rugby ball that my young fella throws at me. I was obviously still holding the bar when it went down. My elbow's a bit banged up too

B- for both papers. That's a pass, so it'll do me (I didn't really put much effort into them)

No animals were harmed in the making of this episode...

No worries Stephen, I was going a little bit silly (as always). Like I said, It's a bit like smoking behind the bike shed at school...you'll get away with it for a while, but eventually you will get caught out. I'll be all healed up in a few days.

Thanks for organising the ride. I had an awesome day anyway.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty good at falling off (if there's such a thing). This time it all happened real quick.

I'm just trying to recall the bikes:
BMW 800
2 x BMW 1150 (or 1200)
KTM 690
Honda Dominator
Suzuki Vee-strom
2 x Husky's
KLR
DR650
and some shiny silver thing with smooth tyres

Unusual not to see at least 5 DR's on a ride like this.

That was a real mix of bikes..the most mixed-up I have ever seen on a ride here!

Yea should get that hand looked at...sometimes we pay the price for acting silly

+1 and if it unfortunately is a break you can now get an orange coloured cast which not only makes you heal quicker and walk faster its way lighter and more controllable. whatever you do don't let them talk you into a green one

I don't know - a DR rider with an orange thing... seems wrong to me.

Hope its just a sprain and heals up fast. Perhaps time for a new helmet?

Those are great shots Bart. Thanks everyone for a fantastic day out -- I made it up to Auckland last night. I finished 3500k of riding, and the most technical was going up that hill!

Hey dude, it was good to meet you. More photos and larger versions over here if you're interested.

I'll have to have a think about the helmet. With the way funds are at the moment, is it better to have a slightly banged up good quality helmet or a cheap nasty one. I think I'll go with the slightly banged up good quality job.

Damage report

Cleaned the bike and started checking it over yesterday. Here's what I found starting from the front.

wonky headlight

Lucky I didn't hole the tank

dented swingarm from the stand

Here's the culprit. Bald Kenda. They work will, but once about 3/4 worn, they are dangerous.

headlight bracket looks to be made of butter. Easily molded back into shape.

I happened to have a spare indicator, so no drama there. The bracket was bent, so had to be straightened along with a couple of other minor parts. I straightened the gear lever.

The swelling has gone down, but my hand is now a lovely shade of purple. I suspect it is a bit more than a sprain like I originally thought but should heal over the next few days (start my new job Tuesday, so it has to be right by then). It's still quite sore.

I've been looking for a cheap car to run to work and back. Who would have thought it'd be such an ordeal. I went and had a look at a tidy corolla today. Nice little 2000 model (ugly as hell, but they are the DR650 of the car world after all ). Would you believe that when I pulled the dipstick there was no oil in it???? Couldn't believe it. Also overdue for a cambelt and a service. I couldn't get away quick enough. What a waste of a day.

I've got an odyssey for sale cheap that would suit you down to the ground (you are having 5 more kids aye?)

I just remembered - you buggered your last DR up not so long ago. You sure you're not a KLR rider?
Glad to hear you got a job. Nametag & everything included?

Permanent, in an ice cream factory. It’s almost as good as working in a brewery...
