Nice one. Good to see the Woodman isn't too worried about scratching his paint work.

As if anyones gonna believe that all happened
We will capture one of your moments soon Nordie.

I reckon the KLRs did alright for road bikes. Funny how the tracks don't look that steep on video.

It's a bugger trying to show the sense of height/steepness on vid.

Lucky you've got the stock tyres on.

Haha. There were a couple of guys with dirt bikes just up the beach a bit. They were sitting down, takeing a break. It was awesome seeing the look on their faces when I opened her up as I went past. Saw 120km.

Eased her right back when near the built up areas. The locals would have done this to me.....

There's an old KLR in there somewhere

Stayed at the Inlaws in Napier on the weekend. I took the bike of course, so I could escape from the gaggle of rug rat nephews/neices etc fighting over easter bunnies. Absolute chaos.

Hit the road early on Saturday and headed over the Napier/Taupo road. Temperture got cooler as I went inland. Nice early morning views.

Once over the hills, I hung a right and headed into the forestry tracks. I was trying to find this mythical (to me) track through to Minginui.

Awesome tracks....but I really had no idea where I was.

I had no map or compass, and couldn't even see the sun to get a bearing. Ended up hopelessly lost for about an hour. A lot of tracks that look like main roads ended in dead end skid sites for logging. I was having heaps of fun anyway.

Finally got spat out onto a major looking gravel road, guessed north, and followed that for ages.

No big hardship being lost in stuff like this.

Finally, looks like civilization in the distance.

I got to Minginui eventually. Caried on down Old SH 38.

I didn't stop for many photos because something about that place gave me the shits. I'm not superstitious, but there is something seriously weird about that place. It's like I was being watched the whole way through to the lake.

Lake Waikaremoana

Stunning place, and the weather suddenly fined up again.

Not a bad spot for a sandwich

About 10 seconds after that photo, a fukcing bee stung me on the neck.

Nice lake

Freaky rock formations. That things bigger than a bus.

Then I gapped it back to Napier. Thought I'd do a few miles on the beach. Dumb idea. Quit before I got right in the crap.

A great day out, but probably shouldn't do it solo. 460km and I slept real well that night.

Ohhh....and a few waterfalls...

Nice pics as usual!

There is a GPS track around somewhere of the SH5 - Minginui route. It's easy to get really lost in the Kaingaroa - too flat & only pine trees for landmarks.

Cheers
Clint
