Rattle canned xr400

I just picked up a 2001 XR400 and decided to try and do a kryptek camo inspired paint job. I added LEDs all around as well as some new tires. Here are some before and after pics.
More pics to follow once I get a chance to go hit the mountains

Very decorative pattern. Nice overall look. A sure improvement over the original.

Just a question: what is the stuff on the handlebars, just above the headlight?

I'd love to know how this stuff holds up. My bike's plastic is all assorted and scratched from previous owner. Before I replace it all with Honda Red, I'd like to see if I could pull off Flat Dark Earth or Black with a rattle can...

Let me know how it holds up.

I will post more pics once I get some miles on it. I have used the same paint on a quad and it held up relatively well for being just spray paint. And as far as the stuff above the light, I'm not sure what u are reffering to. I have a trip odometer and in the head on pic you can see the msr fuel bottle that is mounted on the rear fender

sweet

I love the paintjob and the excellent bike as a whole !
What did you use for stenciling the unique patterns ?

I think they were asking about your mega-headlight above the regular headlight, before, in this thread.

GREAT WORK !!

got it

OK, I googled "Kryptek."

I was really impressed with the pattern, and thought you had created that, haha.
I am STILL really impressed, though, even inspired a little.

Thanks for posting pics.

The "mega" headlight is just an LED lightbar that I got off of amazon. It is crazy bright and great for off road at night. To paint the Kryptek pattern I just googled "kryptek Stencil" and printed the images on card stock. I then used a razor blade and cut the pattern out and laid it over the plastics randomly as I sprayed the final coats of paint.

As long as you plan on keeping it,rattle canning a bike is ok,they dont do well on CL that way. Hard to get all that off, once scuffed they look like hell.

The led lightbar comes in flood or spot. The spot Is great for a headlight application. The led replacement bulb for the stock headlight is super bright to look at but projects very little light onto the road.
As far as the paint holding up, if or should i say when it scuffs I can spray over the spot and it will blend right into the pattern. The beauty of camo, it is easy to hide touch ups

Can you post up a link to the new light. That magazine is illegal to fire in California but not illegal to own? What a dumb ass law. I had a dozen of them shipped to Vegas.
