Is that a heavily modified 690RR - with Baja parts?

No, it is a original 690 Baja bike from the KTM Rally Department.
They build only 4 - 6 pieces for the baja races in the US and in Spain.
Shure, the frame and the front fork is coming from the rally bike, and the rear tank is a little bit like the new 450 rally rear tank.
Also a bike with a carburator. The only problem is, that the guy who wants to sell the bike, had no papers ( last year ) He tried to sell the bike some month ago, but the price is very ( or not ) high. ( 19.000,- Euro )
Our inmate Ludovic Boinnard ( Ludo ) bought this bike from KTM USA. Than he sold it to the German guy.

There was also a big thread here. Here you can read the story of the bikes and a nice vid:

Very nice 690RR-based Baja-bike!

So: A handful of Baja-bikes and around 200 KTM 690 Rally bikes sold until now then? That should give us a decent customer base for parts and spares.

I say, let's keep this iconic motorcycle rolling - with pride. It's a very important piece of motorcycle- and Dakar history.

Pal Anders Ullevalseter's mechanic Vlado must be one of the luckiest dudes on the planet. His freshly KTM-rebuilt bike is now the third street-regged 690RR in Norway. He'll join us on our rides - with a big grin on his face!

Guess who owned and raced this bike before?

Tool box part numbers or supply of...

...the toolboxes that sit in either side of the 690 bash plate/engine guard.

Any one have any ideas on procuring these?

My usual contacts are not coming up with anything. I know they used to be on the KTM truck at Dakar, but I can't seem to get anywhere in the real world.

Cheers

It is looking like from the design that's the bike from Marc Coma, but i just can see differences: no works front suspension, it is an oem part !!!.

Important is, what is under the front tanks, i know Marc Coma had a different frame design as Cyril Despres.

I think he bought the bike from the KTM rally department, they sold 3 older bikes from Coma and Despres but not with the works parts !

More pics of the Coma replica from the MC-fair near Oslo 13th of March:

The short silencers indicate a 2007 or 2008 model. But it's been rebuilt by KTM Racing before the last sale, so the exact year of manufacture remains to be confirmed. The 1st and last picture show Pal Anders Ullevalseter in his showroom booth.

This is 2009 Marc Coma, without works suspension, frame is softer than any other RR I tried, bike feels quite twisty in high speed on hard ground. There is 689cc engine with ported head, different wiring (I had a lot of fun making it road legal).

Over all I am very happy with bike, just arrived from Sweeden, was driving 4 days off road with few lads and rolled 1340km on dirt roads. Bike is unbeatable on terrain like that, smoked out easily all 690 Enduro as they were struggling over 160 km/h
I could gun then over with top speed slightly over 180 km/h.

I had possibilities to get hold of 730cc engine, but I do not really want to have servis every weekend, my point is to ride and not to "store" bike.

I hope you guys like photo of me parking lot last thursday...

Managed to finally get me in OTC, so Bukkerittet 2011 here I come..

But one question for any other 690 RR users, I am getting a lot of clutch shatter, when clutching from stand still on first gear. It is not plates or hub, I guess it is oil. Which surprised me, as I am using Motorex 10W-60 same as always in Desert Race. But bike seems to not cooping well, plates are dry and bike is jumping as moving from place.
I will give it a shot with Motul 7100 (10W-60), hopefully it will help.

What oil are you guys using? I never had troubles with Motorex before.

See you at Bukkerittet then. Not that I plan on following your speeds - I'm nowhere near that brave or skilled!

I'll stop by your shop and buy some proper mx-tubes one of these days.
Had two punctures on the rear in just two weeks. First in Sweden, then another one near home.

Congratulations, the best bike i ever owned !!!

I have the same problems ( not really problems ) with the clutch !
I use also Motorex 10 W - 60 W KTM racing oil.
I will ask my friend from the KTM rally department, if they use other oils !

Which tail is mounted on Comas bike, the new one or the old style ?

Hope to see the bikes may be here in Germany or in Norway or in Sweden !!!

All my best

M,
