Still January 2nd

Pete's camp was pretty cool. Beautiful beaches, friendly people, and a good restaurant. After getting camp setup we wandered up to find some dinner.

After dinner the boys had wandered back to camp while Kelly and I hit the restroom. As we were walking out to leave the restaurant I hear a voice say "Charla?"

There aren't many Charla's in the world so I usually respond when I hear that. I turned around to look for the owner of the voice.

"Do you remember me?"

I immediately recognized the voice and my eyes went wide "Ari? No fucking way!" and threw myself at him for a big hug.

Ben and I had met Ari on our last Baja trip in October of 08 at Alphonsina's. At the time he was on a solo trip to Ushuaia and we partied it up pretty good one night and hung out for a while the next day.

Ari was laughing and just as astonished as I was that we had run into each other again. I said to him "Did you ever go home?"

We chatted for a bit and he introduced us to his girlfriend Emily. I told them where we were camped and he said they would come down after they had some dinner.

I went back to the camp and told Ben "You will NEVER guess who I just ran into!" Ben was as astonished as I was and excited to see Ari again. We all hung out for the next couple of nights since they were planning to go to Gonzaga Bay as well.

Come on Turtle Boy, time to eat. Take a brake from the bike.

First dinner in Baja is always magical. We had enough beers in us anything would have tasted good.

Ben found a Baja book.

Not quite in the "pic of food" mode yet. I had to stop and take a pic. Carna tasted better than it looked here.

That moonrise was absolutely amazing. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before, pics cannot do it justice.

Yeah, that was us. We missed the turn off for route 3 to ensenada due to the construction so we had to flip around and then explain what we were doing for a section time.

I didn't want to just cut through the construction site madly right in front of all those m16s.

I think I remember the stealth van. We left my great white hype of a van across the border in san diego.

Baja is one of the few places I've found where I'm actually excited to watch the sunrise.

The beach ninjees snuck up to the restaurant for some coffee. They refused to be photographed.

There are definitely worse places to enjoy your morning coffee.

Ben found something that made us all think of Motokat.

So, after a night of beers and great food, nature was calling and I found the best steeker placement in all of Baja:

It seemed some sort of challenge.

Poor leetle steeker, I brought it.
