prep for me was kinda like jack.. wait..wait..wait.. ok last weekend to do any work on the bike (since im not arround it durring the week) and GO.
i had bought some cool new things for my 950 for this trip rox 2" risers (one of the best things ever) ![]() a new exo2 heated jacket (less stuff to bring if one thin jacket will work as fleece and a liner) with optional controller ![]() a brand new 908rr rear tire (that was a huge PITA to find) ![]() and since when i "get on it" the fuel might be an issue.. i got the 2 one gallon rotopax cans with mount and optional extention for both cans on one mount (found a flaw with this system later) ![]() and i don't have pics of it, but last munite i wired up a plug for my gps and got the LB maps for baja (great map).. also replaced the factory fuel pump with a facet.. only had like 1 mile test ride.. seemes good! oh yeah, one of the better things ive ever had. i found a thermarest with chair thingy that all came in its own stuff sack.. which turned out to be awsome.. that's all the pics i have online till next sunday.. so carry on

With the number of people planning to go on the trip and the slightly differing schedules we all decided that the best plan would be no plan at all. It was decided that we would all meet at Alphonsina's in Gonzaga Bay on January 4th.
That was the plan. In it's entirety. If we all made it to Alphonsina's by the 4th the trip would be considered a huge success. Ben and I had a couple of hurdles to overcome before we were even able to commit to the trip, their names are Patrick and Cain. ![]() Early in the planning stages Ben was on the phone with my Mom and kind of casually commented that we were thinking about going back to Baja and that we were hoping to be able to talk a family member into coming to stay with the boys while we were gone. My Mom jumped at the chance to fly out to Colorado to stay with them. She lives in San Diego and is lucky if she gets to see us once a year. She was excited about coming to stay and we were excited that she was excited and that we were actually going to go. Without my Mom this trip would never have been possible for us. Thanks again Mom, we love you. ![]() Mom flew into Denver on the 29th of December and our plan was to depart on the morning of the 31st. The next couple of nights were like the night before you were going to go to Disneyland when you were a kid. Ben and I were so excited we could barely sleep! ![]() Our friend Gordy and his lovely wife Debbie had invited us to stay the night with them outside of Albuquerque. It was a bit less than halfway between Denver and Calexico but it was impossible to turn down an invite to hang out with Gordy and Debbie on New Year's Eve.

We woke up bright and early, tossed all our crap (there was a lot of it!) in the truck. Riding gear takes up a lot of space when you're not wearing it. ![]() It was a cold morning in Denver ![]() and the bed of the truck had a good layer of frost in it as we loaded the bikes. ![]() ![]() We grabbed some coffee, said our goodbyes and had Mom snap a quick pic of us. ![]() I made sure to document the conditions that we were leaving in favor of sunshine and warm beaches. ![]() It's official, we are now on vacation!

Of course the big cup of coffee went right through me so I needed a pit stop in less than a hundred miles but that was ok, we had plenty of time to get to Debbie and Gordy's house.
I waved and snapped a pic when we passed by the mountain where our little cabin is. ![]() Not this time but we'll be visiting there soon. ![]() A short 7ish hours later we arrived at Gordy's. Gordy is kind of a cranky bastard on the innerwebs but in real life he's a sweetheart. ![]() And Debbie is always a sweetheart (probably because she doesn't hang out on the innerwebs very much. )![]() We immediately cracked open a few beers and then I made Gordy and Ben go on a beer run because he only had crappy beer (Corona) and they come back with even crappier beer (Tecate) Oh well, it was NYE and we were gonna party like it was 1999 until about 9:30.

Debbie has the Mother Hen Syndrome worse than I do so she made us a fabulous dinner of pork spare ribs and some other stuff (my memory is a little fuzzy on that part) She also made jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with bacon.
I've never been a huge jalepeno fan but I figured the cream cheese and bacon would overcome that. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yum!! They were sooo good we were practically fighting over the last one. I will definitely be making these in the future. Kelly says they are called Christmas in Your Mouth and I can't argue with that. ![]() We had a great time and I think this pic pretty well sums up the evening. (I think we even made it to 10:30!) ![]() And I didn't even have any tequila.
