Man, I just knew I was gonna get Bruced on this one. I ran across a few sets of moto tracks...a couple turning around at the first water crossing

I can't see the pics until I get home, but I know where this one was. I almost went after it last night, but the wifey wanted me to stay home with her (wimmin! sheesh!) so I planned to get up early this morning to go get it.

This morning when the alarm went off I thought "you know it would be really bad if I got out there and dropped the bike while trying to cross the creek" so I decided to do the "responsible" thing and sleep another hour

Loved it! TN Steve was with me as we came in from the north, but he had to be back @ noon to pick up he daughter.

I had made 3-4 water crossings, and was about .9 miles from the tag before I wimped out on what looked like a very slick crossing.

[IMG][/IMG]

I backtracked, (took somebody's branch road) and finally got there around 11:15. I also met 2 new KLR's and an 800 GS. I accused them of getting the tag, but they had no idea what I was talking about.

Also, I've got to change the camera date.

they're blocked too - besides I figured if I went that route and some virus got in our intranet as a result, well I would be out of a job post haste...

No time for love Dr. Jones. I had a D200 with a decent lens and another 'bike cam' in the tankbag, which was underwater for a bit. The cameras did get wet, but the D200 is sealed up pretty well. The Canon...well...it's used to this kind of thing .

The trick was getting the tankbag off...then I could pick the bike up. I had 2 litres of water, food, cameras, and all kinds of other crap in there that made heft...plus the water itself. My tankbag dry weighs about 30 pounds.

After I got it up and checked the airbox (dry ), I fired it up...shot water back across the creek . The oil's fine, so I don't think I passed any through the motor...just spit it out of the pipe. I pulled my airbox drain plug and nothing came out. My horn didn't do so well...Stebel Magnum is history. PIAA 004XTs are having issues...submerged the switch and possibly the relay. Shifter is bent up...no idea how that happened...probably what started it all.

This is the Dakar's first submarine trip...did pretty well given how long it stayed under. Even the fuel filler was underwater for a few minutes...didn't seem to leak a drop! I have a friend who did this a couple of years ago...he's got a new motor because of it...but he sucked water in the intake. Pulling it all apart soon to further assess damage...wish me luck!

Good idea. I rode all this and alot more Saturday on the DRZ...WORLD of difference. I never slipped anywhere on the Z with TKCs. The Dakar with K761s, even without the bags I usually carry, is the ice princess in comparison.
