9 months until Dakar starts and still no sign of what KTM plans to do with a 450. I am surprised, I really thought we would have seen their factory riders testing 450's at the first round in Dubai.

may be new front tanks and a smaller fairing and than they will have a very good rally gun. In Dubai all the bikes had problems, may be not Casteu with the sherco, but he changed also the engine. Marc Coma and James West took their rally 690ties without problems to the podium. |

By the way, does anyone know how Luca Manca is doing? Has he recovered?

Isn't the SX-F 450 a 5 speed? I guess KTM could cram in a 6 speed if they want... |

i am not joking,
Apparently the sx-f is proving the most reliable and most promising. Possibly with a Husaberg 450 cylinder and valves. PS gearbox change is relatively simple. (words were whispered by a certain KTM testrider, who also just won a rally and speaks spanish). An no the 690 frame etc will not be used as it is too heavy for a 450 engine. A new trellis frame is easily built. Be assured that it will look like a 690 rally bike, just smaller and lighter. (A bit like the Sherco masterpiece). Got the hots for carbon. Credit to Casteau, every single brand of bike broke in the challenge except Sherco, unless i missed an engine change but that could be precautionary, and not because of a breakdown in the desert. Even 690's broke down. |
