I was more impressed with;

"The instrument panel has a road map, which tells Kurt what lies ahead; the heading, which is there to help him read the terrain; and the tachometer, which keeps him doing the speed limit that the road book tells him to go."

Talking Would you like to be my "wingman"...?

^^^ Maybe not the biggest of considerations when planning for a desert race... but, it's right about here where Rob Van Pelt thinks to himself;

"Hmmmm... mental note to self: Riding one row out and one row back is not optimal for racing through puddles..."

It's incredulous and sad how little they know about one of the most prestigious and long-running races IN THEIR OWN NICHE INDUSTRY!!

In defence of the MXA wrecking crew, I think that they would regard their "OWN NICHE INDUSTRY" as being Supercross and Motocross... not Rally. At best in the past the "enigma" that DAKAR and other Euro "rallye" events presented to the majority of the*merican motorcycling public has been the privelige of other magazine titles like DIRT BIKE and Dirt Rider to satisfy the fleeting curiosity of North American enthusiasts... and the hard core addicts and basket cases ended up.... welll here!

I find it kind of neat that the dakar/rallye has created such an amount of interest, and Kurt C's profile in the American offroad world is such, that a hard core MX publication like MXA would take the time to toss a leg over the latest rallye exotica från Mattighofffen. That they cant figure out what the electric toilet roll dispenser on the handlebars, or the IPOD on the steering crown is for... well that just makes it more entertaining for the precious f5ew that do.

Two people riding round there that I know and would like to give a shout for....

1) Rob Van Pelt who finished just next to me on stage 8 in January (his first top 10 also) and went on to finish next to me in the overall rankings. We met again at the FIM Rally Moroc last month and it felt like we were old friends, we both beamed with joy to meet again. He's such a happy chappy. Much younger than me, early 20's and very quick, good luck in January my friend.

2) Henk Knuiman, top bloke! Met him at FIM Sardinia, Dakar 2013 and again at Merzouga Rally last month. He's done more Dakar's than I can shake a stick at and never failed to finish one of them, he's always finished in the top 20, his best finish was 8th overall in 2000 and he finished 16th in 2013. He's such a great guy and I wish him all the best for January, go Henk.

Lyndon
