KTM has no surprises about any stage, they have studied them in detail long before arriving at the race start

so lets not kid ourselves about the intel KTM has access to or who provides it to them ok !

bitch about Mini corporate influence as much as you like its just the same in the bikes, in 2013 CdP won because Ruben was told to back off !!

Honda, Yamaha and Speedbrain etc etc are WAY behind the ball game compared to KTM re race strategy & intel
That would explain to me a lot of Coma and CPD's normally trouble-free route negotiation up till this year, and CDP's nav issues this year.

I'm sure that was the assistance Road Book not the competitors.
Also what is so different between knowing the area as a local, knowing the area because ridden it x times before (as in Africa), or having a look in GE the evening before?

Memorizing the whole track is impossible. I think it was 'Lastplace' who said memorizing the next three entries is a goal to be achieved. And on my last trip keeping the information for the next waypoint in my head was difficult enough while concentrating on the track in front of my wheel.

just my 2cent

He's saying he saw them in teh assistance van, but a hardcover bound book implies the information was availble beforehand, and any info beforehand is more info than zero after hand.. you know what i mean?

I mean if they have access to course beta, they're going to be in a much better off position than the plucky guys in the back, who eat so much dust it doesnt matter if they know the way or not, they cant see a damn thing.

They have access to course beta. Those books calculate liters of fuel at every stop based on the surface to be traversed, etc...

It's not assistance course information, although they have that, too.

It's not really the Dakar, and it's definitely not on the same scale, but the Intercontinental Rally is currently taking place in North Africa and it does finish in Dakar

Sweet front tank set-up on that Yamaha - be interested to know the capacity, and if it is available as a individual part - looks like a regular Safari 10L on the rear, so I imagine the front tank must be close to 20L? - ideal as a 'rally lite' kit...

Manny?

This is the best picture of the bike...Because you cant see the rear tank!
It is an after thought which does nothing for weight centralisation or asthetics and shows a lack of effort on the part of whoever has gone to the great trouble of putting the rest of the concept together!

Oh I think you are being a little harsh!

I know what you mean, yes it is clearly 'added on', but they are a pretty sound (budget) option?

My main point was that if the front tank has sufficient capacity for most events, then only the Safari tank need be added on for longer stage events like Dakar? Without the rear tank, you've got a very neat looking 'rally lite' set-up, with a very slim (stock) rear end...

Nice!

Never mind the tanks. The exhaust is a little weird

To be honest, it is nice to see a new concept, the fairing is completely new, so is the front of the bike. They could add on a Mecasystem and ''finito la comedia'' , but they went into trouble of creating injection molds and stuff. Tower is their design as well, new system, completely, I admire that as they could have still copy and create a clone of KTM, Rally Moto, RMS, HDB system like all the others are doing. None of that is there and that is a the only way you can turn heads these days.

The bike will improve during the year for sure, imo it is a very good starting point

It's getting a bit silly by now.
This one is especially terrible. Blue nav tower is also in poor taste.

Manuel keeps referring to this as the 'production' bike.
Is it production like the HRC with only a dozen made or a production like the last-year KTM that you can (sort of ) buy?

I do not have access to my e-mails at the moment, but from what I have talked with Manuel during December this will be a rally kit at a specific price. Much like the other companies sell. Yamaha Italia helps for the project but Japan has nothing to do with it from my knowledge.
