Would Troy be fast enough to be a true water carrier ?[/QUOTE]

Your kidding aren't you. Did you see where Troy finished at this years Dakar , 36th wasn't it. Maybe you should ask Marc Coma he saw fit to ask Troy if he would fit a rear tyre supplied from the team to ride on the 1st marathon day then swap with Marc that night for the 2nd marathon day. btw the tyre Troy received back that night was rooted basically no noobs left and Troy had no dramas. He can ride no worries about that.
Unless GHR are providing a bike and Everythink payed for I don't think he will be riding for Hoffo considering the good relationship he has with the KTM team.
Probably the reason Aussies go with overseas teams and not GHR is the price. To do a Dakar with Hoffo is some where around the 120k mark. Also I don't think Troy has enough frenquent flyer wife points left to do another self funded Dakar next year

No not kidding simply querying whether he had the outright speed to back up either one of the Smiths. I'm not saying he's slow either just wondering how fast a "water carrier" is meant to be and if he was fast enough to stay close enough if you follow me. No doubting his ability to ride or preserve his machine and his work helping riders this Dakar was a credit to him he's a legend as far as I'm concerned.

Not bike related but ...

Silkway canceled

COMMUNICATION FROM THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE OF THE SILK WAY RALLY
Due to a very tight sports calendar in the Russian Federation in 2014 and in order to have a better balance of the workload of all the structures involved in the organisation of sports events in Russia, the Silk Way Rally Organising Committee had to take the decision to postpone the event in 2015 .
The Silk Way Rally Organising Committee, benefiting from the support of the government of the Russian Federation and of numerous ministries, understand that strategical events like the Olympic Games in Sotchi or the Formula 1 Grand Prix that will take place in October, are a priority.
The Silk Way Rally has been existing for 5 years and it quickly became the second biggest Cross-Country Rally after the Dakar rally, gathering a large number of participants in both cars’ and trucks’ categories.
For 5 years, the Silk Way Rally has answered a request coming from all the competitors, offering a big international competition, professionnally organised and heavily hyped. Over the years, the Silk Way Rally has become a major event in the world of cross-country motorsports.
The head of Silk Way Rally wishes to thank the competitors for their loyalty, as well as all the organising teams, suppliers, broadcasters and partners for the quality of their work.
The next edition of the Silk Way Rally will meet the expectations of the participants and we will do everything to make the next edition a memorable race. We will remain faithfull to our philosophy « each edition must be better than the previous one ! ».
We sincerely wish to express our gratitude to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for his personal involvement and his great support in the organisation of all the editions of the Silk Way Rally.
On behalf of all the participants, of all the motorsports’ fans, we want to thank the Minister of Sports, M. Vitaly Mutko for his help and his availability in the project Silk Way Rally.
We also wish to thank all the members of the organising committee, thanks to them the Silk Way Rally has become a sporting event known throughout the world.
Semen Yakubov
Project Director Silk Way Rally

Now that Despres has switched to four wheels, the dominoes are starting to fall:
He's out.
