I think upcoming talent will bring younger champions but i also beleive the sport is a bit like running a marathon, most endurance runners are not really young.

It take brains and experience to run fast and long on a rally. There are several young guns who with luck on thier side can win a rally, think of James West, Sean Gaugain but that said the one is very fast in motocross sort of conditions and the other is smooth but has made some rookie mistakes. I guess all over the world at each rally there are locals who can run that particular rally in the top but to run the who series at the top it takes a lot more experience.

The DC is not hard on navigation, the contrary, Sardinia and Dakar are tough on navigation etc etc, get strong on all points (navigation , sand, rocks etc) and then still run at top pace that is what makes champions like Despres, Coma etc.

Pzygonski is still young but ridden a lot of rallies in two years, so he is on his way. Personally i would like to see some of the aussie top riders in the Dakar.

jonahs new bike?

Jonah Street just posted a picture on facebook of a Yamaha wr450 with a jvo kit on it...new rally rig? I bet it is.

about 3 months ago, I was told by a certain Charlie (rally pan am), to look into the wr450 instead of the ktm 450exc for a little rally bike project I am under taking...I guess I did not read between the lines very well......
this is all jut speculation...

The JVO kit is sweet!

No sense waiting till the last minute for a very $$$$$$ mystery KTM bike that is nothing but an unknown.

Too bad the kit costs more than the bike!

Hee hee - true their full 'Dakar' kit is spendy, but if you go for the 'Lite' kit (without the rear seat/tank unit and centre airbox), then it's under €3000...

I've gone for a custom alloy centre fuel tank (additional 5 litres), plus am having a pair of 1.5 litre alloy tanks made to hold the required 3L water either side of the Flatland Racing bashplate... I reckon this is going to be a neat and cost effective way to get what I need for Dakar, and with the benefit of having all the liquid on board 'mass centralized' in true Yamaha fashion eh?

Hell, what do I know?! - it just looks kewl!

I moved the discussion about the video to the KTM 450 Rally thread to keep the topic consolidated.

Thumbs down

I can't wait to see what everyone's riding this year. That video of Cyril is a tease and now it looks like Jonah is planning a surprise as well!

I love what Jenny's got going on with her Yammie, tested and evolving from Tunisia. And of course, Neil had a few hurdles with his bike in the Dos Sertoes, but all-in-all a good finish and stead.

KTM, Yamaha, BMW, Sherco, Husky, Aprilla.... (what did I miss?)

So, it's going to be more than interesting to see how these bike work out during the rigors of the upcoming rallye's and then the Grand Daddy Dakar!

cheers! to all the riders and all the teams that will be living an incredible challenge between now and mid January!
