F700GS fork swap?

Anyone ever thought about doing a fork swap on the F700GS twin like the guys are doing to the F650GS singles?

It's a swap putting dirt bike forks on it from a donor bike like a YZ250 or similar.

According to this site it uses the same steering head bearings as the F650GS single.

http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/mot...M/7711080.html

Which are the same as the YZ250F forks I put on my F650GS.

If the bearings are the same then the next thing to know is the steering stem length. If those are the same length or close to it give or take a shim then the swap might be possible.

If so with a few other parts and things to think through one could conceivably put a full front end from a YZ on the bike.

Hmmm....,

The 650 Twin and the 700 use the same lower triple PN 31 42 7 711 469. I have a 650 twin triple on the shelf if you need measurements.

I'm putting an F800GS suspension on a 650 twin so in theory, you could Shiver it. You familiar with that?

Yep. Little bit. Ha! But if the YZ fits or another bike that's an easy swap.

I bet the offset of the YZ triples will be completely wrong, and the stem way too short.

Why would ya think that? Same bearings as F650GS single, same stem as F800?

Hey Morgwn,

Finally taking off on the 28th of April, 3 weeks to go! Doing the Hellas Rally in Greece then off to Kazakhstan to meet Colebatch and a few other guys.

Gangplank,

The stem is very long, and the twins have very little offset in the clamps, much lower than most off road bikes.
