I give all my students my GV number now and it allows me to answer txt and listen to voicemail on my computer as well.
+1 I use my GV number to give to clients and to dates that seem like they may become "unstable" at some point .

I'm hoping there's a way to subvert that part of caller ID before too long.
That doesn't happen anymore. There is some setting, somewhere I read, where you can have the GV # show when making calls.

Yup.

I can't really bitch about GV, it's free and it works really well. There are just a couple aspects of it I hadn't considered (dummy me) when I centralized on it.

If you're willing to spend $2 I would recommend beautiful widgets. It has several clock widgets, but also has some nice widgets to silence or put your phone in vibrate. Has some nice battery monitors. Has some live wallpapers. Not sure if you're smiley has some hidden meaning, but if you're serious, this is a good paid app.
There are also several free clock widgets. Go to appbrain.com or the market and put flip clock in the search box. You should have several hits.
HTH.

Have you gone into the camera settings menu? I just checked my EVO and there's a checkbox to toggle on or off the shutter sound. My camera doesn't really make any other sounds. Weird...

no setting for the camera shutter sound, if I put the phone in silent mode the camera noises still work.

ok, couple of google lessons later, if I silence the alram and timer setting sin the "alarm clock app" it silences the camera.

what a bunch of dumb, why not just stick a silence into the camera settings. -1 motorola

Does anyone know of a way to assign a specific ring tone to a specific text message sender?
