Heck, if one utilized a bigger tube, it could serve at least three purposes:

1) Air release to get more fuel in the tank (already documented)
2) Gas Syphon - if you run out, just syphon some out of your buddies bike
3) Beer Bong - Revert back to your college days and consume mass quantities of beer in very short time frames - A little gas vapor didn't hurt anyone...
4) Any others?

3a) After said beer was consumed, it has to come out while you're riding. So I think a urinal should be in there somewhere.
