I'd guess I would look at the market leader - and that has to be the GS12. This forum is probably as representative of the true market as drivers of Ford Expeditions on a 4X4 forum. There are a million GSs out there and how many of them ever see dirt?

Many users have transitioned to d/s bikes for the same reason SUVs are popular - they are older (and richer) and don't bend as well as they used to. Tall bikes are simply more comfortable and older riders want comfort.

Problem is that the GS has the GS buyers cornered. There seems to be strong buyer loyalty along the BMW line. By my take, the only bike which has used a formula similar to a GS and won over converts is the KTM LC8.

OTOH, you do have a point that there may be a segment of riders currently on cruisers or sporty bikes which would move over to a nice Honda standard buffed up to appear to be an off road sort. Kinda a Range Rover of a bike. I do suspect that Honda being today's Honda, the product would be overly refined and boring as hell.

Just a note to say thank you for giving us a early notice on the new Super Ten. Those of us who really like Yamaha and recall the days of Dakar glory for Yamaha, really appreciate you taking the time to let us know. I for one am really hoping that this will be the year for Yamaha to come to the front of the Adventure Touring community with a bold new machine.

Having done some light(ish) off-roading on my DRZ, I don't think I'd be too concerned with a 'lack of off road' potential of the new S10. At my level of skill I wouldn't be taking a big trailie off road for a few years anyway

If it operated as an 'all roads tourer', ala the DL1000, then I'd be happy.

in Italy we don't buy so late (September), so that's why the value is so low..

From Jan 08 till Oct 08 Bmw sold something like 6000 GS and GS ADV... the 2 bikes combined are at first spot for sales.. if you take only the GS then is 2nd after the Z750..

GS it's an unbelivable seller, kind of the Porsche Cayenne of motorbikes..
